A group of Chicago-area nuns is suing a strip club behind their convent, complaining of noise, glaring neon lights, fist fights and heaps of litter that include empty whiskey bottles and used condoms.
The Missionary Sisters of St. Charles Borromeo said Illinois mandates a 1,000-foot (300-meter) buffer zone between adult entertainment venues and places of worship or schools. The suit, filed on Friday in Cook County, also names the village of Stone Park, where the strip club is located.
The $3 million Club Allure opened last September across the back fence of the convent, which has three chapels, a home for retired sisters, and a house for young women thinking about becoming nuns, the nuns’ lawyers said. …

If judges there are elected count on the nuns to lose...regardless of what the law says.How much will the nuns be both willing and able to donate to campaign funds?
Sure would be a shame if some vigilante justice befell the building housing the strip club.
What happened to the old frontier days where the saloons and whorehouses were in the same building for church services. Ah the good ol’ days.
Seems to me that there is activism among judges whether elected or appointed. The greatest activism has been out of the federal circuit courts and USSC, and none of those judges are elected.
I'm thinking more along the lines of simple corruption...which is why I mentioned elected judges.Although appointed judges can be bribed as well.

Given that this is,primarily,a local issue...an issue of local zoning...that might not be a factor here.Although philosophical corruption in the Federal courts could be an issue somewhere down the line.
All the nuns need to do is hang out in the strip joint every day and look down their noses at the customers. After a week, the place would shut down for lack of customers.
I often thought of starting a website - "Who visits Cloud 9?" or whatever other club. Take pictures of the patrons, and pics of their license plate.
Back when you could pick up phone calls on scanners, we overheard a conversation between the DA and a city official discussing in great detail their upcoming weekend “hunting” trip with other local officials. I learned everything I ever wanted to know about Candy and Cherry’s attributes and what they’d charge. If only I had known how to get that out to the community.
