The Piano Man has had enough
Piano Man Billy Joel has seen an ivory key or two in his day, but the musician has a message to piano aficionados: Stop killing elephants and rhinos to make instruments.
In support of a New York bill that aims to ban illegal ivory trade, Joel posted this message on his website:
To whom it may concern:
I wholeheartedly support the ivory sales ban bill pending in New York State. I am a piano player. And I realize that ivory piano keys are preferred by some pianists.

Does he really say “rhinos”? I won’t give Time a click. Rhino horns are not ivory and piano keys have never been made of them. Is the piano man that much of an idiot?
Agreed. There is no need to do it. None.
does Bill Joel have pianist envy?
It’s a junk bill, they are saying that the old pianos with ivory keys can’t be bought or sold anymore (or at least not without special permission from the state, which means inspections, documentation, permits, etc). They need to let us dispose of our lawfully obtained property as we wish, and leave us the heck alone.
Putting Botswana out of business. They actually harvest ivory from living elephants to prevent poaching. (not to mention some limited culling of elephants)
But you can’t use plastic either, because plastic is made from evil petroleum, which Algore says is causing Global Warming.
Can you make substitoots on the Horn of Africa?
Anyone know after what year did they stop making ivory piano keys?
Thank you for joining 1910's greatest environmental initiative.
However belated, your thoughtful recommendations have been forwarded to King Edward VII in Heaven and the House of Lords for immediate action. One wonders what tragic retro-cause concerning the abuse of animals you will next select. May I suggest you now turn to the cruel plight of pit ponies in Welsh mines?
On behalf of a grateful empire H.M. has asked me to tell you to Foxtrot Oscar, you stupid twit.
Ecologically yours,
Bertie Wooster
How embarrassing for The Piano Man.
Stevie Wonder, not Jackson
He had to be a Big Shot.
He just has not been the same since he lost Christy Brinkley
Sirius satellite radio recently made its Channel 4 an all-Billy Joel channel. I wish they would go back to “40’s on 4,” which played music of the 1940’s.
He isn’t very smart!
The trading of ivory is already illegal..........does this mean he wants to ban its illegality?
Yes, he's older and stupider.......
Me too! I never grew up in that era but certainly love the bands and music........
FWIW, I can think of many other artists more deserving of Joel who deserve their own channel on Sirius........
I'm looking forward to the eventual release of the DVD of the "Jersey Boys"........
