b>Word For The Day, Friday, June 20, 2014 flummox
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
flummox; verb (used with object) Informal. to bewilder; confound; confuse. 1837, cant word, origin uncertain, probably from some forgotten British dialect. Candidates cluster in Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, southern Cheshire and also in Sheffield. "The formation seems to be onomatopoeic, expressive of the notion of throwing down roughly and untidily." Never let it be said that the OED editors lacked imagination. Related: Flummoxed.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Property rights for underground minerals (such as oil, natural gas, coal, and coal bed methane) are based initially on surface ownership. When the colonial government first sold land to private property owners, all property rights transferred with the deed. Ownership of the surface and ownership of the minerals underneath the surface were united.
"Da-vy, Da-vy Crock-ett, king of the wild fron-tier..."
Thank you.
Did you hear about the French terrorism?
Good morning - I’m almost at a point of going Galt - I can barely watch tv anymore because of what is happening to our beloved country, and now internet is depressing too. I’m about ready to unplug and disappear
I just sent it to her!
Hang in there. We have hope for November.
Hmmmn. Noting like the pissport (er, passport) office under Hillary and Kerry to flumuxus citizens - while advocating MORE illegal aliens to come across and break our laws ....
Notice the language now?
The illegals went from illegal aliens to undocumented to undocumented immigrants!
Foreign Policy is proving to flummox
And not just your Democrat lummox.
Once we had Bona Fides
Now it’s- “We won’t take sides”
If you trust any of them you’re a dumb ox
Exactly, amigo. Well said.
Or, “winters coming”....
I’m betting Ti will be back with us all sooner than expected with bells on...
There is no rhyme or reason
To hearings on the IRS-
Every taxpaying citizen
Is flummoxed by the mess
Feigning injured innocence
Today, when under attack
Didn’t work well when so few
Were willing to give any slack
A massive lack or credibility
Is now coming home to linger-
And I’m all for that payback-
Giving IRS the middle finger...
I think i would say se puede desconcentar a un bobo? but very good try! a+++
I UNDERSTOOD THAT!~ it’s semi-miraculous when i do! it’s a festus song right?
Good to know, as we are having prosecco instead of champagne at the wedding, because the kids prefer it! and i am pretty sure Prosecco is dago not french.
it is depressing, i know what you mean. for today i am gratified that the passport ofc was an orderly and expeditious process. The AMERICAN middle aged man in charge of it today, cut off the standby list and had us go back at 11:30, we were done and out of there at 11:38 and there were only a handful of people in there, instead of what could have passed as a marketplace in the middle of Mumbai, the last time.
perfect!! A++++
