The surprising reason millennials won't get hired
cnbc ^ | 6-30-2014

Millennials are famously unemployed and underemployed, but the reason may not entirely be the so-so job market. Or gaps in their college education.

It could be their body odor.

In the Bank of America Trends in Consumer Mobility report, released Monday, surveyors asked 1,000 adults about the importance of various items in their daily lives. Among millennials, 93 percent said a smartphone was "very" or "somewhat" important, making it the most important item for that age group. Fewer—87 percent—said deodorant was of daily importance, and 91 percent, a toothbrush.

Clean up and wear a suit. That's 99% of the interview right there.

What a crock of Shia Muslim that is right there. The reason why they don’t have jobs is that the country is in a prolonged and deep depression. It is caused by poor economic policies of the Obama Administration following the panic of 2008! All other reasons are simply BS to make the idiots look better.

Yes, a suit, a fresh shower, obviously deodorant, fresh shave, no emo, no attitude, smile, good eye contact, no visible tats, good handshake, personable - You know, the basic workplace requirements. . What happened? Pop Culture? Drugs? The music?

DON’T get tattoos that can be seen when wearing shorts and short-sleeved garments.I don’t want to see barbed wire around your neck, vines or dragons or skulls on your arms and legs.Better yet don’t get tattoos at all.Or piercing other than earring for women if you absolutely must. Bodily mutilation is a sign of problems.

Leave the cellphone in the car or turned silent in the pocket and give full attention to the interview(and job).

Younger people and some not-so-young obsession with cellphones is disturbing.I even had a date get out her phone as soon as we ordered and proceed to make calls. That was our first and last date.I suspect interviewers might react the same.

My husband hires college kids (18-21) during the summer to work for his irrigation repair company.

He only hires MK’s (missionary kids) who were homeschooled.

They are always:
1)on time
2)clean and well groomed
3)courteous to supervisors and customers

FYI, he starts them at $10 an hour, and most end up making $20 after a couple of summers.

He says they are worth every penny.

BUMP!

I haven't had to hire anyone since I retired 15 years ago. Probably just as well :)

I run into fewer and fewer people I would consider a good hire. Brains full of mush, cellphone addicted, unable to concentrate.

Glad I'm old.

The reason millennials aren't getting hired is because the economy sucks, period. Silly articles like this just dance around the issue. Are there some kids who are odd and don't wear deodorant? Yes. But most do and they still aren't getting hired.

What happened? Pop Culture? Drugs? The music?

Public education happened.

Schools no longer educate, they indoctrinate kids to be good progressive voters who will be guaranteed votes for teacher interests.

Students leave very unprepared and knowing very little about the real world.

Yea, just like the 60's generation did.

Biggest issue I run into is attendance. These days everyone has a reason why they can’t come in by 7 or 8 am and then they have an urgent appointment and need to leave early at least twice a month. Grooming might be the issue for some, but being here when I need you is the biggy for me.

Blame the victim. That is what failed governments always do. I am sure that the story will be followed by another one telling us how a child with drug resistant TB and no education from Central America is a great asset to this country and a benefit to this country.

The elites in this country hate the middle class.

I guess you’re younger than I am and may have an easier time understanding the desire for decorating one’s body like a pirate with all manner of childlike expression that will last a lifetime. What is the driver for this crap?

Cell phone addiction? Yes, it is epidemic. A guy who works for me is late 30’s and his rings constantly and the rig tone is obnoxious. I want to rip the thing out of his hands and trow it in the creek. It seems the more obnoxious the better. Ditto with commercials.

Inconsiderate also makes the top of the hit list of reasons I’m growing to flat hate being around others.

I just forwarded that article to my 19 year old daughter. She does wear deodorant but for some reason is not upset about the shitty job prospects out there. She is starting to get pissed about everything that is getting taken out of her paychecks however.

I have one suit that is for interviews and a few other important things. It stays in the plastic. It is 10 years old but looks like new and it was tailor made. Nothing special, just sensible dark blue.

I can relate to wanting to throw the phone in the creek. I have a 30 year old here that I did not hire, but I can't get rid of him either.

Knows everything, just ask him. GAD! Stupid phone buzzes constantly! At least now most of them text and we no longer have to listen to one-sided inane conversations at peak volume.

I had one who's moved on to "greener" pastures. His ring tone, was that stupid whistle from the Old Spice commercial. I came close to going to the penitentiary!
