The Obama administration warns that gridlock in Washington will lead to gridlock across the country if lawmakers can’t quickly agree on how to pay for highway and transit programs.

That’s because the balance in the federal Highway Trust Fund is dropping and will soon go below $4 billion. …

Quick and dirty solution: Disestablish all this centralization of “funding” by rolling back taxation and regulation to permit private-sector takeover of all of same. The money is out there, but trying to force it out of people will continue to fail.

First, wasn’t the all-magical Stimulus supposed to repair transportation infrastructure?

Second, it might be a good idea to NOT divert highway funds from highway projects. Just a thought, guys.

We gave the Liar-in-Chief all that stimulus money for shovel ready jobs that did not exist....where is it? I think the states should be responsible for their own roads, and transportation...plus regulations. This is not a place for federal money or federal interference, imho.

Come and talk to me after we have stripped EVERY PENNY from any present or retired congresscritter, president, lobbyist, or other closely associated government sleezebag worth over $500,000.

Oh, and totally stripped the surviving families of EACH AND EVERY congresscritter that voted to spend highway funds on (name your pork project here).

Really.

No kidding.

Make them paupers, send them to pauper’s prison, and make they do manual labor until they die a very unpleasant death.

Then burn the carcasses.

Liberals are our enemy.

Treat them as such.

This is an opening salvo to get the ball moving on a mileage tax due to the more efficient vehicles, less mileage being drivin in our “booming” economy and the use of alternative energy sources to power vehicles thereby avoiding the excise tax on fuels.

Highway spending to Obama is really make-work projects for Dem Congressional districts and “green” infrastructure projects awarded to his crony capitalist friends who use overpriced union labor. Let the spending be cut. It won’t hurt a thing.

I think all the “stimulus” money went to government unions to stem layoffs. I.E. public school teachers and other solid democrat voting blocks. They didn’t want any government money winding up in the hands of potential republican supporters.

All funds for the highway “trust fund” come out of the general fund anyway, so there is a double-accounting problem too. That is why those so-called trust funds ought to go.

States should opt out of paying the federal gasoline tax and repair roads on their own. Tell Obama where to stick it.
