His role as Binghamton’s yes man was really a pretty tough one to play.

He was a good actor.

I think that leaves Tim Conway and Gavin MacLeod as the only surviving cast members from McHale’s Navy.

His brother Don Hastings was an actor also and played Dr. Bob Hughes for over 50 years on “As the World Turns”.

Married to the same woman for 66 years. A rarity in Hollywood.

I didn't know he was also the voice of Beany in Beany & Cecil.

Rest in Peace.

Bob Hstings is holding Joe Flynn, who played Captain Binghamton. Joe Flyn died at the age of 49, a drowning victim. He had a cast on his leg, but decided to go for a swim in his his pool anyway. The weight of the cast pulled him down, and he drowned. (Back then, they used the heavy plaster casts, not the lightweight fiberglass casts they developed later.)

McHale’s Navy and F Troop were my two favorite shows once upon a time. These shows violated so many of today’s PC rules.
