It was a matter of minutes before the internet was overloaded with viral images mocking Brazil for their 7-1 defeat by Germany. Christ the Redeemer, the iconic statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, is normally seen as an image of hope - but the famous landmark was quickly photo-shopped at the expense of the defeated host nation, following their semi-final humiliation. Here are some of the best images from across the web...

I am experiencing schadenfreude at Brazil's humiliation. I think because I do not any other country, perhaps besides Argentina, that has so such an over inflated view of its self.

So, they don’t get their “everyone wins” ribbons for their kick-ball game. Grow up.

I thought the reason why they held this in Brazil was so Brazil could win. Another one of those “pride” things.

Brazil sort of feels like Denver did after Supebowl XLVIII.

Comes to mind, The Ventures — Wipe Out:

I just wish Neymar could have been on the pitch to enjoy the drubbing along with his teammates.

I wish I knew how to post videos. That one with the German beer stein is simple, and fantastic.

I took glee at the pain being shown by the Brazil fans also. But then I thought...life isn't a bowl of cherries in Brazil and they have little to hang on to. This spectacle of sport was very important to them. Much more than just a game.

But then I think back to all we've seen from the jerks who think Brazil is invulnerable...and I get giddy all over again.

Why do Americans fell compelled to use the British term “pitch” instead of field when talking about soccer? The Brazilians sure don’t. Nor the Germans, Spanish, or any other country around the world. I wonder how many soccer hipsters realize the word is borrowed from cricket?

It was good to see this Brazil team lose because they are undisciplined, entitled, and play dirty.

But the pleasure in seeing them put in their place will be dimmed if Argentina wins the World Cup.

The Argentines need comeuppance even more than Brazil does.

I'd like to see Argentina lose a third place match to Brazil, and the Netherlands finally win a final against Germany.

I use a few other Britishisms, too. Like whinge. And sod off.

Losing is a fact of life and presents an opportunity for the loser to show resolve and get better. How you react to an event that is not life ending determines your character. Wonder how our kids will do with the new standard of “you’re all winners” that is being preached?

If you can find it in animated .gif format, you can just post it like a still image - like so:

That's a good outcome although the German team is superb and is not dirty.
