(CHICAGO) The activists who are agitating for a $15 minimum wage are rejecting Mayor Rahm Emanuel's $13 an hour proposal.
The Raise Chicago Coalition organized by the Service Employees Union says $13 is a good start, but they still want $15.
In any case, the coalitions Adeline Bracey says the current minimum wage cannot stand.
I cant survive on $8.25, Bracey said. My community cannot thrive on $8.25! We are barely alive on $8.25. And in the words of the rapper, this aint no jive, this $8.25!

Zingermans. Its one of the pilgrimage sites where “He” (Obama) walked and there is nothing altruistic about his desire for a $15 minimum wage. The owner knows it will put a lot of his competition out of business.
Right. It is $13 too much.
At your age, lady, perhaps you should have learned a skill.
She could go to India, learn programming and get an H1B Visa to work for Microsoft or Google...
So you raise minimum wage 100% and Social Security 2%. Seems like there’s likely going to be a problem brewing.
Seems the parasite class is going to have a rude awakening during the tribulation time.
$8.25 is better than $0 which is what many of Bracey's constituents will earn when this goes through.
The minimum wage is never enough! If it was, it would still be at 25 cents an hour as in 1938.
Don’t be mean, Gene
Give ‘em 15
lol
I cant survive on $8.25, Bracey said.
No you are kidding... Of course not you idiot. It is a beginning wage, a part time wage, a starter wage for people with no education or work experience. You want to make more get more education, learn a trade, develop a skill.
When I came back to America getting out of the Air Force as a certified Law Enforcement Specialist I was able to get a job at a County Prison for $2.65 an hour. I worked 60 hour a week for over a year to make it. Proved myself and moved up in the ranks and made higher wages. That lead to a better job and even higher wages. Sorta how life works.......
Why not $50 or $75 or $100 per hour? Why not a $100,000 a year guaranteed salary? Well, Why not? Not enough, eh?
What is that supposed to mean?
Never you mind what it means, it rhymes, that makes it important......and true!
Ala, "if it doesn't fit, you must acquit".
The whole community is not thriving on $8.25... who could have guessed?
I don't even know if we had a "minimum wage" when I was 16 (1961) but I made 50¢ an hour, working on a farm. Then I enlisted at 18 and made even less.
“Higher salary put them into a higher tax bracket and cut off their bennies!!!!”
Yep, it will be great seeing all the exploding heads if this comes to pass.
