The Reason One Famous Restaurant Started Getting Bad Reviews Reveals Reality Of Our Time
IJReview ^ | 07/23/2014 | By Caroline Schaefer

Posted on 07/24/2014 2:14:42 PM PDT by Swordmaker

This recount, found on The Meta Picture, tells the story of one restaurant’s quest to find out why they kept getting bad reviews despite serving the same number of customers on a daily basis.

It took a look into their past to discover exactly what has changed in the last ten years – and their findings tell more about how we as a country have changed – possibly, for the worse.

Now, although this particular instance may or may not be true, it tells a story that is all too common today in America.

We are so engrossed in ourselves and in our technology that we lose sight of the importance of the relationships we have and the importance of experiencing things rather than recording them.

Sometimes we just need to put the phone away and get back to the basics.

This texting craze has gotten out of hand.
My grandson and his girlfriend spend all their time texting each other.
And they're sitting next to each other!

Embarrassed to say I have a Twitter account, never use it though.
Who cares that I'm going to the store or toilet or whatever these twits think their 'friends' are interested in. It's crazy.
My daughter comes over for dinner. Her phone ringing w/ the message tone constantly.
Next time she comes over, phone off.

Women + phone = trouble.......

Add a service charge based on time of table occupancy.

“If it takes you 3 minutes to get a pic of your plate, maybe you are too dumb to have a phone!!”

Taking the pic only takes one minute.
The other two minutes are used uploading the pics to Facebook, so you can show off to all of those hundreds of “friends” (Many that you don’t actually know) what you are eating.

Do the math. The restaurant has X amount of seating. It’s open X number of hours. If the customers took 1 hour per seating in the past but now they’re taking 2 hours per seating, then how can the restaurant still serve as many customers? Simple math shows they can only serve half the number they were in the past.

Get rid of the WIFI and buy a signal jammer.
Ban photo taking in the restaurant for the safety of
“the children”.

Only if they were regularly at capacity before. If on the other hand they regularly ran at 1/3 to 1/2 capacity there’s plenty of room for people to take longer.

LOL! Last week, I was in my private club and (usually my beer is there when I walk in). The barmaid was new and looked at me with her cell phone in her head. After 5 min.s I got my beer and watched another regular waving at her and quietly saying “ Another beer?” She finally looked at him and said “When I’m done, OK?” I put my beer to the side and she immediately made another call. I yelled “Hey woman, I’m paying here.” She said “hold your GD horses until I’m done, OK?” When she finally got off her ass to get a beer, I walked over grabbed her cellphone and smashed it on the bar. I got a round of applause and now I’ve got to go to small claims court. Worth it. She got fired, all on video.

My Nephew’s wife and her many friends do this all the time, both at home and out. Every moment, it seems, of their lives are recorded.

They live in Thailand. My sister talks to them at least 4 days per week, 3 hours at a time, on Skype.

My nephew says that Thai’s seem to be even worse than Yanks for living in the digital age.

I believe you.

I have taken three photos with my phone.

One was a test, the second was of a family member, the third was a couple of weeks ago while we were house hunting.

I have owned the phone for about three - four years.

I have yet to text.

It’s not just phones. On one trip to San Francisco four years ago I experienced two instances. First on the way, in heavy traffic, I spotted a woman with a mirror propped up on the dash above the steering wheel using both hands applying her eye make-up. . . leaning forward to get a better view in the mirror at fifty-five MPH.

What was she controlling the car with. . . both hands were farding her eyes. Yes, that’s a word. Ask Rush Limbaugh. . . many years ago he had a campaign against women “farding” in cars. LOL.

On the way back, going a cross the Bay Bridge, I was passed on the right by a guy with a 15” notebook propped up on the dashboard. As he passed, I could see he was watching something. . . my girlfriend did a double-take and said “Oh my God! He’s watching porn!” I looked again and sure enough, he was. At sixty miles per hour with no view in front. . . none at all!

Where are the cops when you want one???

This past Mother’s Day, my family treated my mom to Ruth Chris.

A table to the right of us had a Norman Rockwell family; a very good looking mom and dad, and three children who were pre-teens/teenagers.

The entire time from the time they sat down, all five were on their phones. Not talking to each other, just on the phones.

A couple a few seats over, were not speaking at all to each other, they spent the entire time texting each other.

My sister and I had our iPhones with us. They stayed in our pocketbooks the entire time. We spent our evening talking to our parents, like you would when you visit them.

If it takes you 3 minutes to get a pic of your plate, maybe you are too dumb to have a phone!

I've noticed some restaurants have signs stating "no pictures taken of food" or something similar. I am guessing it's because many aren't just snapping a pic. They are playing food stylist wanna be with the table top to post the pics on their blogs, instagrams, twit pics, etc,

Actually that’s not a problem - as the other reply stated.

What concerns me here is the lack of info, except to claim it’s in NYC. No name of restaurant.

Expecting this to appear on Snopes.

But, completely believable. People ARE obnoxiously pathetic about their relationship with a device.

My husband thinks what is odd is about the recording system - too much the same for 10 years passing.

That is exactly what I look like commuting into DC most mornings. Although I sometimes text my wife if I forget something.
