Two former McDonalds executives are trying to bring kale, quinoa, and other upscale foods to the masses with a health-conscious restaurant chain called LYFE Kitchen.
Mike Roberts, the former global president of McDonalds, teamed up with Stephen Sidwell, who helped found the meat substitute Gardein, and Mike Donahue, McDonalds USAs former chief of corporate communications, to launch LYFE Kitchen three years ago.
The chain, which calls itself fresh casual, now has 10 locations and ambitious plans to open 250 more within the next five years. Current locations include California, Texas, Colorado, Illinois, and Nevada.

You’re absolutely right. This is the way to change America’s eating habits - by offering delicious and competitive foods, and letting the public decide. Not governmental regulations. I think these will be a big hit and McDonald lovers can still have their McDonald’s... happy happy
The sausage mcmuffin and the sausage mcmuffin with egg are two different menu items.
And you pay $1.49 for that egg
I have ordered so many iterations of the Sausage McMuffin with Egg to these people that it’s ridiculous.
I’d like to just be able to make them at home, but would end up waking my Wife and kids up in the process.
I get up for work at 2AM.
Evey where else seems to want to stuff the burritos with potatoes or hash browns or some thing to make it bigger and to cut down the cost.... If I wanted hash brown I would have ordered hash browns.
I do like their iced coffee and breakfast burritos though.
If you want something yummy for bfast, try one of these from kroger, they have them with ham and sausage too:
They are a breakfast pita pocket and they are quite cheap at kroger and only take minute to nuke.
yup, no thanky.
[ Since when was quinoa been an upscale food? As a serious home cook, quinoa has been a standing joke of mine long before it was featured as such in the popular beer ads.
The taste (and I use that word loosely) of quinoa makes the flavor of grits seem like one is dining on truffles. ]
Fried Okra would be an excellent replacement for fries, not healthy mind you...

Bunk!
I might try the fish tacos and the “grass-fed beef” burger, but not much else on the menu really sounds appetizing.
Yet, the very connection of two former McDonalds officials and the words “meat substitute” somehow confirm what I’ve grown to think of their burgers since I worked at one 50 years ago when I was 14.
I’ve run across this before too. YOu have to say SAUSAGE Egg McMuffin with cheese NOT sausage biscuit with cheese.
But you’re right, their employees only relate to the things they sell the most.
Maybe the word we’re lacking here is “acceptable”
Hey! Where’s the tag and emissions and inspections sticker on that there vehicle?
Starbucks gave us the $7 cup of coffee - these guys are giving us “gourmet” fast foods. If the cost can be compared to “gourmet jelly beans” I can predict my non-involvement in their endeavor.
I haven’t been near a McDonald’s since college. It’s good not having hershey squirts.
Now I know why there are no more Incans.
...makes the flavor of grits seem like one is dining on truffles.

Haven’t had truffles, but a big serving of grits, with butter, salt and pepper, is fantastic when accompanied with country fried ham, about 3 eggs and a couple of pieces of toast with butter and jelly! Grits are good!
