When it all hits the wall, one thing you should be sure of is that someone is listening to every communication you make within reception range. Many will use scanners to try and find you or your group. If they hear radio activity, especially activity on the short-range radios, they will know you are near. Some will use direction-finding antennas to get your exact location. The idea with radio comms is to use the least power and radio with the least range that will get you reliable comms. If all has gone south, you will want to use radio only when necessary, and then keep your conversation short and dont transmit from your base; do so from a distance, if possible. The first radio suggested is the Trisquare brand. It can be used anytime without being discovered, except by the military if they are looking for you and have radio direction-finding equipment within range, but the chances of that are slim

Thanks for the ping.
Will check back, for additional FReeper input ;-)
If you know who you want to speak with, use point to point coms using a dish, or dig your lines into the ground and to whom you want. Never link to lines of com’s together... better to run lines redundant for backups. Cell phones are radios using someone else’s tower/antenna. Cut your own antenna to ensure the band you want is kept to a certain range. Watch for sun spots, er ah global warming....

In this case it wouldn’t pay to use Indian code talkers, like the United States Army came up with.
While illegal to operate without a license, HF shortwave is difficult to DF.

Big Brother is always listening....
I know this isn’t related to this thread, but....
I wanted some feedback on what I heard on Dave Ramsey’s show today. He said hyperinflation occurs when people’s distrust of the currency happens. And that gold will never be used in the currency’s place and has not been used for exchanging goods since the times of Rome.
I don’t think his definition of hyperinflation is accurate - doesn’t it have to do with the supply of money?
And sorry for not being a better student because I know it’s been discussed on the prepper threads, but wasn’t gold/silver used during Argentina’s collapse? Or the Weimar Republic?
He did say that if a fascism/communist government is instituted, that there is NO place to put your money that will be safe, as they will just steal the money or the property that you own. He did express some pretty conservative principles, blasting the government liberal (he used that word right out) spending. So I think he’s on the right page, just wonder where he thinks all this spending will lead us, if he doesn’t consider hyperinflation an option.
Would ham radios be better?
Sad thing is, Big Brother can listen into all these systems. I guess we need a Paul Revere method of communication instead.
A Paul Revere system would work best.
Quiet backrooms, careful background checks.
The internets is not an option.
Handheld signal lights perhaps?

I bought is as a prop and finished with it. It wasn’t working and I looked into getting it going but have too much going on. The idea was to come up with something different.
I have a watcher on Ebay for it.
Agreed. In the unlikely and thoroughly hypothetical event that our government was taken over by America's enemies but still had all the NSA and military capabilities, they would be fully capable of listening in on anything transmitting over the horizon. The best SigInt security would come from dedicated lines or from optical (flashing light, semaphore, and similar). Radio would be tracked and probably considered a high priority among America's enemies, particularly if the transmission seemed to be encoded or using unsociably short messages.
Many of the old ways work best.
Dead drops etc.
It s all be seen or not seen.
