Why Isn't The Media Outraged About The Kansas City Chiefs?
The Federalist ^ | September 30, 2014 | Ben Domenech

Posted on 09/30/2014 11:55:12 AM PDT by right-wing agnostic

Last night on Monday Night Football, the ESPN crew couldn’t stop praising the loud, engaged home crowd at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium. They opened the game with a ceremony where running back Christian Okoye, “The Nigerian Nightmare”, pounded on a giant drum as tens of thousands of Chiefs fans cheered on. The crowd, many of whom wore feathers and American Indian-themed garb, chanted and did the Tomahawk Chop. They were so loud that, if you believe these measures, they set the new Guinness World record for loudest crowd roar, surpassing the Seahawks. It was a pretty awesome (in the traditional meaning) scene, unless you were a New England Patriot or a Patriots fan.

But I gotta ask, where’s the outrage from the politically correct?

Bob Costas? Phil Simms? Keith Olbermann? Don’t you have anything to say about this?

There’s plenty of controversy about the Washington Redskins’ name. Rob Tracinski and Bill Voegeli have both written about the history of that controversy for us. My own view is that its lack of unpopularity or prioritization among Native Americans is a reason not to change the name. Sally Jewell, the U.S. Interior Secretary, recently noted this:

That was the estimation of Interior Secretary Sally Jewell, whose department oversees the Indian Affairs federal agency, when she was asked about the controversial brand in an interview with ABC News.

“Personally, I think we would never consider naming a team the ‘Blackskins’ or the ‘Brownskins’ or the ‘Whiteskins.’ So, personally, I find it surprising that in this day and age, the name is not different,” Jewell told ABC News’ David Kerley.

Keep these lunatics away from the Chiefs!

But to answer your question....I imagine the NFL sells more Redskins gear than Chiefs gear. Bigger fish.

I say get rid of the word “Washington” in their name. That’s the embarrassment. Leave it at “Redskins”

Probably because “chief” is a title, not a slang term.

I’m guessing.

What the Heck are they Talking About?

When I was in College all I ever heard was how offensive the Kansas City Chiefs were, Along with the Washington Redskins, Cleveland Indians and the Atlanta Braves!

It was in my Textbook for Pete's Sake!

It was in the same chapter as some Putz who re-wrote the Pledge of Allegiance to "All the Oppressed Peoples and Workers of the World".

The Book asked if it would be offiive to rename the Yankee's "The New York Jews"

It was right after the Chapter talking about how games like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion caused School shootings.

I Sh!t you not on any of this.

Not sure about offensive, but it sure would cause confusion in the fundamentalist ranks.

“Yankees” is an offensive enough name for those of us from south of the Mason Dixon line...

Not that this would dissuade the media or the identity agenda crowd, but the Kansas City Chiefs are only indirectly related to those people who were already here when the Vikings landed. The name Chiefs refers to “Chief” Bartle who was the Mayor of Kansas City and very active in the Boy Scouts. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow whose colors are red and white and whose symbol is an arrowhead rendered exactly like the one on the helmets of the Kansas City Chiefs. Bartle founded the Tribe of Mic-o-Say, thus his nickname Chief. The “tribe” adopted Indian dress, tradtions, and pagentry for their scouting based leadership program.

If someone goes after the Kansas City Chiefs, it will be the homosexual community, not the people who were here before the palefaces.

What about the raaaacist TV-inspired Indian chant and the tomahawk chop?

The chef’s portrayal of Indians is like Go Go Gophers or the Hekawi.

But that is all OK I guess.

Curious - any mention of Cowboys, Buccaneers, 49ers, etc being offended by the names?

Many years ago (20? 25?) Sports Illustrated had an article about this and had a wonderful graphic with “The San Diego Caucasians” with logo and banner and everything.

I have never found it online but I should have kept it — that was HILARIOUS!

Florida State not only does the chop...they have a guy dressed as an Indian come out on a horse and shove a spear into the field.

But for some reason the Redskins get all the attention.

How about “Raiders?” There must be people of Moorish ancestry who are offended, by both the name and the way the team has played in the last 20 years.

No, that’s not okay, that stupid tomahawk chop drives me crazy. It’s nearly as bad as “Hey, hey, ho, ho, _____ has got to go!” I hear downtown every Tuesday.
