The National Institutes of Health has awarded $189,186 in taxpayer dollars to Emory University to study the mortality of transgendered people, using electronic medical records for people who receive care from the Veterans Affairs Administration.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether transgender persons defined as those who medically change the gender assigned to them at birth (male to female or female to male) have higher or lower risk of death and certain diseases than men and women that do not consider themselves transgender, the grant said.

They are using the wrong records.
How about looking at San Fran records?
It is obvious from the start that since these Trans-Whatevers died at all, the Military is racist or something.
Active Duty/Retiree ping.
So the sex chromosomes are completely indeterminate for nine months of pregnancy until some hospital bureaucrat checks a box on the birth certificate assigning a gender?
Hard to study something that is less common than albino zebras; almost non-existent. I will bet that the number of transgendered that have served is so phenomenally low that they will be hard pressed to find enough to study to push the gay agenda or hypothesis they are trying to postulate. They will probably have to create fictional characters to do so...
"Medically change", euphemism for physically mutilate.
Assigned to them at birth? The author chose passive voice, eh? Well then, assigned by... Whom?
I will just go ahead and say it what they don’t want to hear. Its a well known fact homosexual men contract AIDS / HIV at significantly higher rates than heretosexual people and have a higher mortality rate than straight people. they are a health risk to other soldiers. There saved them $180K +...
The biblical term is “eunuch.”
“the gender assigned to them at birth”
I never knew nurses and doctors assign your gender. I always thought that happened in the womb. I guess that science isn’t important to some people
“assigned to them at birth” is not very pass, it is deranged
people really believe that, and there are even FReepers who argue you don’t have a soul until you pass the birth canal
By whom? Well, maybe by... Dr. Jones, the Attending Physician? Or Jane, the Midwife?
The Passive Voice is indeed extremely overused... Pardon me, did I write that? I meant to write that Dr. Jones and Jane and a whole lot of other people overuse the Passive Voice.
Seriously: The formulation "assigned to them at birth" seems like a legitimate and pragmatic choice in this instance. The people carrying out the study (or writing the article) don't really care WHO assigned the gender to them. I suppose that they could have written "...change the gender that SOMEONE listed on their birth certificate," but that wouldn't have made it any clearer.
Regards,
First of all, these people are mentally disturbed. Second, going from male to pseudo-female is not the same as going from female to pseudo-male. Can’t lump them together.
The reason for this “study” is to prove discrimination in some form or other.
It’s true: Transgenders die, just like everyone else.
How about that money, now?
DANG!
LOL. What is this ‘assigned’ crap?
