Try it as my healthshake: 12 ounces of skim or any other variety of milk, heaping tablespoon of peanut butter, one large banana, 1/4 cup of one minute oats uncooked, two or more ice cubes, blend to smooth texture and drink.

I know how you feel. I used to eat bananas when I was a kid but now I can’t stand the smell of them. Really bad when at the grocery store and they have really ripe bananas.

They didn’t listen to me when I was in the hospital and said NO BANANAS and they brought me one anyways because I needed potassium. They didn’t even bring the tray all the way into the room and I could smell it and I told them that better not be for me and if it was for the other woman I would need to leave the room for a while.

That sounds good I am going to try your milk shake tomorrow. Maybe I won't add the ice cubes, it's pretty chilly here. :)

I love oatmeal. I usually have it thicker. I love mixing in natural peanut butter, butter, cinnamon and either a little sugar, brown sugar, stevia or honey.
I like adding dried cranberries (hate raisins), chocolate, jam or preserves and various other things like nuts and sunflower seeds. Just depends on what sounds good and what I have available.

Also like making oatmeal jam bars, fruit crumbles and crisps.

"But if one wants to have oatmeal on hand, dollar store had some, same container size as Quaker Oats and it was good enough."

If you really want to save money, go to your local Grange or feed store and buy it by the 50-lb. bag. It's horse feed, but the exact same stuff Quaker Oats sells in little boxes. And just as nutritious and delicious.

Best oatmeal:

Put dried cherries in a few minutes before oatmeal is finished cooking. Mix in a little heated canned pumpkin, walnuts, a little coconut, splenda (or brown sugar if you're lucky enough to be able to eat real sugar) and the secret ingredient...butter.

Half and half makes a good topper after butter has melted.

That sounds good, it’s about the one thing that hasn’t been said here yet, once in awhile, people do indeed eat it raw, it is possible to do it that way, probably grosses some people out but not altogether terrible. I tried it, maybe in a jam, it would be the thing to do.

I’ve heard that too, cooking the longer oatmeal is better for you but most INSTANT oatmeal has add-ins, maple flavored or whatever.

"potassium"

For some odd reason many, many people think bananas are the only source or best source of potassium. Many foods like certain beans, baked potatoes, leafy greens, salmon, apricots, and a few others are higher per gram in potassium than bananas.

One of my favorite ways to eat it at night is just add a little butter, pb, and a little sugar and microwave for about 30 seconds or just until the pb melts and then I just stir it and let it set for a few minutes. I also sometimes use honey instead of sugar.

We have a cookie recipe that my family likes but I actually like the raw dough better than when it is baked. Basically it is chopped nuts (supposed to be black walnuts or hickory), oatmeal, butter, sugar, salt, eggs and vanilla. Rolled, froze and cut thin.

I actually made some oatmeal tonight. Peeled and cut up a Gala apple, a little butter, brown sugar, oatmeal, and apple cider and some dried cranberries. Sort of like a crisp but did it on the stove. I used 2 packs of instant instead of trying to get the better oatmeal from the baking cabinet.
