La Marseillaise (From Casablanca)
1/7/14 | Kartographer

I like many have crack a joke or two (Well maybe 3,4,5,6..) but they did help a fledgling Republic (maybe for their own reason, but help they did.) back when we needed it.

I know many of you are down after they told act of cowardice we witness in our own Congress yesterday.

Hopefully this may cheer you up a bit!

And to Frenchmen suffering from today's cowardly Islamic attack everywhere you are not alone!

Ah, from a time where patriotism wasn’t a banned thoughtcrime.

Hey Dawg Brother...

RE Casablanca:
In this case, it really IS “the Usual Suspects”. Only way to stop it is to remove them from the country. And I just can’t see the French doing that.

But yeah... we joke about the French, but... we’re ALL French today... so sorry to hear this.

Vive la France.

French jokes should go the way of the Polish joke. After a shipyard electrician and a pope helped bring down the Soviet Union, Poles began looking pretty admirable. I hope for a strong response from the French people. I do not expect the French government to do anything meaningful.

You assume that le Front National doesn't soon form a government. Every event like this increases the chances of that happening, as they are the only party which meaningly addresses this issue.

The French have always believed they had a special connection to the Arabs.

I have always loved that scene. With the Germans singing the counterpoint with “Watch on The Rhine”...brilliant!

I love that scene!

I was very surprised when I recently viewed a very old WW1 movie called Grand Illusion. There is a similar scene in which the German guards in a POW prison sing that very same song, and the French prisoners counter it with the Marseillaise.

However, the songs are sung one after the other, not contrapuntally as in “Casablanca”.

Still inspiring, but not as effective as The Casablanca clip.

"French jokes should go -- "

Agreed. Any more the cheese eating surrender monkeys are the American Regime, not the French people.

All I have to say is: Good luck with that.

And I’ll leave it there.

“...You assume that ...”

Most folks would make that assumption, based on their past reactions and tolerance attitude.

But I hope you are right. I hope all Europeans realize the danger and take steps to protect themselves and their own nations.

As I do for this country, my nation, culture, and people, as well.

You can’t reason with psychopaths.

Casablanca, perhaps the best movie ever made.

But didn't I read recently that Marseilles is essentially known as a Muslim city now and French is almost a second language there?

It’s one of my favorite movies of all time.

Claude Rains was excellent. He was great as Prince John in “Adventures of Robin Hood” too, from 1938.

“Im shocked, SHOCKED, to find that gambling is going on in here!”

“Your winnings, M’sieur..”

Classic!

Can’t you see Speaker Boehner standing in as the mayor in the scene? Because that’s pretty much what he just did to the Conservative members of the House.

They’d have to refilm it from black/white to sepia.

That way, Boner’s skin color is correct...
