But there is now a NFL rookie salary cap. So the most he can get upfront is around $15 MM. No more $30-$40 MM bonuses like J’Marcus Russell stole from Da Raiders.
Million dollar arm, ten cent head.
He’ll ruin whatever franchise drafts him.
He couldnt ruin the jets ...
Agreed, he needed that final year to redeem himself.
I heard the same thing you did on the Mike & Mike show and they then went on to praise his “leadership” in the locker room. I told the radio that he’s leaving because his lack of leadership has now been confirmed with the loss in the Rose Bowl so he has nothing to return to at FSU. He’s played out his string.
I liked a comment on the website of the local paper on this announcement where the author was looking forward to the first time a 300# meat missile takes Jameis to the turf.
It’s kind of like drafting Michael Vick.
Just moved to Fla a few months ago. Radio buddy is FSU alum so he was beating the drum. After watching his performance against the Ducks, I told him he wouldn’t go in the top ten.
Kid can’t see the sideline. How can he see Safety over the top 40 yards downfield. Kid cost himself a TON of money in that game.
Vick may not be a great quarterback, but he’s ten times better than Jameis will be.
I would agree....he will be passed on first round. He needs at least four years of work, and some effective maturity classes to get around to on-field usage. The sad thing is that he’s got some talent.
My prediction...end of second round...traded around immediately and picked up by the Redskins (they are this stupid to pick up on the guy).
Ah the things God gets blamed for.
Jerry grabs all the thugs!
He’ll spend more time in prison than the NFL.
I don’t know about that. The guy is supremely talented on the field. Far more than Vince Young. It took Young a lot of hard work at UT to perform the way he did in his final season. Winston has as much raw talent as almost anyone we’ve seen. Whether he has the head to develop on and off the field is in question. I wouldn’t want him to be my team’s first round pick. Too risky.
I don’t know about that. He wasn’t the running back that fumbled on two drive when the score was within 5. His game fell off the rails during desperation time...and more on the sidelines than the field.
They were moving with fair ease at the end of the 1st half and beginning of the 2nd. If those fumbles didn’t happen, and they got 10 points out of that...at the very least it would have remained a tight game. Possibly a classic. FSU came back in the second half almost every game this year, and won the BSC last year doing the same.
This time, the wheels came off after they had 14 points scored against them in the 3rd quarter and went into desperation mode.
I like your comment. Jameis is a 20 yr. old, supremely talented athlete, who will have to make choices in the future. The press and politically correct individuals will harass him without stopping. I hope and pray that he matures and takes advantage of the opportunity afforded him. Many other “sure failures” like Dez Bryant turned out OK. . . and prayer was the best place to get counsel for him!
Or, more to the point, "ruining" would be an improvement for the Jets.
“Hes got Jets written all over him.”
Hope you’re wrong. Winston looked like he was doing his best impression of Geno Smith in his last game. NYC will eat this bum up. The Smiths, the Vicks and the Winstons, etc. don’t make it with the big guys.
The Bears won’t even get a shot at him. Given his proximity to Tampa, the fact that they’ve been having a butts in the seat problem, the fact that they’ve never had a top shelf QB (never even given a QB a second contract), and they have the first pick he’s going to be a Buc... at least for a couple of years.
