A fire has destroyed a fleet of snow plows in the small New Hampshire town of Henniker, as another storm approaches that could dump up to a foot more of snow.
The fire broke out at the Henniker Highway Department on Friday night after the plows had finished clearing snow from the streets. The state fire marshals office said five dump trucks used as snow plows, one road grader and several other vehicles that were stored in the town garage were destroyed. The damage could exceed $1 million.
This puts the town in a bad spot, Henniker Fire Chief Steve Burritt told the Concord Monitor. The town has a serious problem for snow removal. Not that there isnt a solution, but its going to be a challenge.

GAP insurance ought to cover it...
My first question: Are they having difficult union negotiations?
They should have switched from wooden plow to metal plows years ago. Then this wouldn’t have happened.
Put the plows on the cities garbage trucks, new hydraulic hoses, fluid, seals and snow chains on the trucks, then kick the tires and light the fires...... Get’R Done !
Fix it ...don’t whine ....,gonna snow ya know !..... :o)
(I know...lots more to it than that sadly)
Just my opinion.
up on smoke
Insurance fraud
I bet it was a denier fire.
Wow. That converted Fiat 126 scares me. I’d rather have a Bobcat any day of the week over that.
Not a city, no town provided garbage service.
But they’ll find a way.
Looks like a Smartplow.
Henniker is a small college town. Population around 3k. Most NH towns do not provide any trash pick up. You take it yourself to the town landfill or transfer station, locally known as the Dump. Many small towns share a dump because it is more cost effective. Theses towns have volunteer fire departments. Between New England College’s equipment, PATS Peak ski area trucks and other local contractors they will get it done. This is My, we will not wait around for someone to come bail us out.
Go PATS.
No unions in small town NH. Probably just an accident, greasy rags, spontaneous combustion or a fuel leak.
Too funny! LOL - bet it is solar powered too.
probably not Insurance fraud ,, but $1M is high ...
5 new dumps with plows ,, @ $85k each =425
maybe a used loader or two @ $45k each
and a 50’ by 100’ steel building at $200k erected
you’re looking at about 700k ,, could be easily under 500k with good used dumps half the age of the destroyed ones.
They are covered for this storm.
The state has donated plow trucks and overlapping towns will plow a bigger area.
Henniker will have a fleet of brand new trucks in no time.
We stick together up here.
Look for the union label.
“Put the plows on the cities garbage trucks...”
Virtually no such thing in NH. Vast majority of us bring our trash to the dump. Only big cities like Concord, Manchester, and Portsmouth have garbage pickup.
They’ll press into service local operators and pay them handsomely. Storms like these make me wish I had a new Fisher Power XV2 10’ plow for my Ram 4500 dump truck.
Note to self: the road through Henniker is going to a tad bit rough this week. Another ten inches this week.
