JACKSON, MI - Marion Blumenthal Lazan has experienced the horror of constantly having death on her mind.
Blumenthal Lazan spent six and a half years in refugee, transit and prison camps, including the infamous Bergen-Belsen, during the Holocaust.
As just a child she battled mental and physical hurdles, witnessing countless deaths each day.
"When I talk about those years it is a long related nightmare, a very bad dream," Blumenthal Lazan said. "I separate myself from it ever having happen to me and that is how I deal with it."
On Wednesday, Feb. 11, Blumenthal Lazan shared her story of courage and survival to the students of Jackson Catholic Middle School and Jackson Lumen Christi High School as part of a four school district tour in the Jackson area. Blumenthal Lazan's presentation went into depth on the struggles she faced throughout her time in the prison camps, including the poor conditions of living.

Because WW2 has been over for over 70 years, there will be less and less people that are still alive that have lived through it. Not as a soldier, but as a civilian. Many times I have told people about what the Japs did, in the countries they conquered. But more and more, I’m talking to deaf ears. I guess that’s the nature of things. I would surmise, that more than 90% of the people today, weren’t born before or during WW2. But unless these 90% of the people are reminded of the horrors these monsters committed, they will be forced to re-live it, at some time in the future.
The Rise and The Fall should be mandatory viewing in high schools nationwide but our increasingly socialist schools would never allow it.
I had a teacher with the forearm tattoo. He deliberately left it uncovered so we would ask him about it.
They might, but it will be come with a "how to" instruction manual...
