Aoshima Island is one of about a dozen "cat islands" around Japan, small places where there are significantly more feline residents than people. In Aoshima more than a hundred cats prowl the island, curling up in abandoned houses or strutting about in the quiet fishing village. Cats outnumber humans six to one on the island. Recently becoming popular online, tiny Aoshima has seen a steep rise in tourist visits, overwhelming the handful of permanent residents.

Japan has cat islands and I know of bunny island. I wonder what Grumpy Cat thinks of this place.

Some friends of ours spent 2 years in Japan recently, according to them apparently the Japanese hold cats in high regard.

Having said that, after reviewing the pics at the link I’m wondering id there should be some kind of population control......wow.

In other words, cats are the dominant species on the island. And some of the cats are larger than others.

I saw photos of where the people live but in 24 photos, I didn’t see any of the cat houses.
