Looking at the chart in the article, it appears to me that we're shut out here in North America. Please tell me if I'm wrong - the last time I saw a total Solar eclipse was over a half-century ago..

in 2000 or so there was a total eclipse near the Caribbean i planned a trip on a sail boat to be in meniscus. on the ocean you can see them coming and going. didn’t pan out. i would try to do that trip again

Yeah ... me too ... it was in Boston and I remember going to a hilltop to see it and I was maybe 8 or 10 years old

I remember not looking at the sky like a lot of the adults were, but being mesmerized by the color of our clothing and how it had changed ... not like black light, but another spectrum that just fascinated me.

In a few minutes me and my little brother left to go to school ... I remember it being in the morning

Well, if you can live a couple more years, the next total solar eclipse to hit the US will be in late summer 2017. Should be a good one as it will cut a swath across the entire country.

The last Solar eclipse (partial) I can recall seeing was in the mid 90's - occurred around midday on the east coast. Nothing to write home about, but it was strange walking down the street at 11:00 a.m. in twilight. The birds were making a racket setting in for the evening - and of course we were back to full light shortly after noon. IIRC, that eclipse occurred in April - an April where we had a series of 100 degree days. Maybe that's where Algore got the idea.

You can look directly at the un-eclipsed Sun with no eye protection.

I do not know why looking at an eclipse would be any less safe.

Solar retinopathy is usually reversible, but I wouldn't bet my own eyesight on it.

The eclipse occurs as the Sun rises at the north pole for the first time in six months.

It is also the Hebrew ecclesiastical new year's day -- the first day of the year on the calendar given to Moses. And it is in between the 2nd and 3rd of the Four Blood Moons (Four lunar eclipses on sequential Passovers & Feast of Tabernacles). We are in the middle of the 8th set of four blood moons since 1 A.D.

Of all the eclipses visible from my area, about 80% where themselves eclipsed by cloudy weather.
Or so it seems.

I remember a partial eclipse in 1984; there were hundreds of solar crescents on the ground beneath a tree where aphids had left pinholes in the leaves.
