1) Portland has an ARTS TAX. Gasp. This means a little fiefdom seizes property under threat of tax liens and seizures to support a bunch of parasites and corrupt politicians…who decides who gets the money?

2) Considering Indiana and the Pizzaria--there has been very little attention paid to the Portland government supported persecution of Christians running Christian businesses…Case in point-- "Sweet Cakes by Melissa" who, when refusing to engage in a lesbian sacrilege, is fined by the government--$150,000. They are threatened with ruination, but I don't think they have gotten much crowd funding support.

3) I would love to hear any anecdotes by freepers on Portland and its apparent horrors. I already see how many horrible people live there.

There are some very fine people who live in Oregon in and around Portland.
The Northwest portion of the USA is a different place.

Rather than wasting your time engaging in some sort of debate with this Portlandian Turd, I would find a new cherished circle of friends that refuses to tolerate obnoxious leftist interlopers.

Probably not the best advice, but anymore there needs to be a zero tolerance policy regarding who we associate with... lefists are sworn enemies, they aim to destroy everything good in my life and replace it with slavery to the state. That right there is reason enough to me to desire to place distance between myself and their kind (them and me? I am not an English major).

I have heard so much about “how we do it in Portland”

Do what I do when those California, northeastern
communist block yankee liberals and wetbacks start spouting that crap
down here in Texas.

Ask them why they are here and then tell them they are more
than welcome to move back to the crap hole they ran away from.
If it’s so great and they do everything the right
way then why are they here. Of course if your in one of those
pathetic liberal states then you really don’t have a leg
to stand on. Texas is good ground to stand on.

Portland is so far left that even the liberals mock it with a tv show.

I suggest that you throw a “Portlandia Party” and feature all the BS Portlandia episodes. Encourage your friends to laugh at and discuss amongst themselves.

You could even provide fart-snifters (empty wine glass) for the eco-crowd along with free-range goat cheese and natural rice crackers as appetizers....have fun with it.

Well, I have a cousin who’s son “came out” a few years ago, graduated from uni here with an “enviro sci” major, decided to move to Portland because it was more “gay friendly” and is now gainfully employed at a Petsmart and sports a ring through his nose...truly!
Sigh.....

I grew up there, went to a “the hands of labor should seize the factors of production, but only if they recycle” liberal arts school there (with Monica supplanting Marie Post as our most famous graduate - who can tell me what they have in common?), and promptly left upon graduation. Having lived in New York, overseas, and now in the South, I have some thoughts:

There is no social stigma in being batsh1t crazy.

Your college roommates might bury their own crap in the yard while drinking organic beer.

You are not cool if you won’t bike in the rain.

It rains all the time.

Homeless (shelter challenged) are not to be disparaged, but keep it away from me.

We love black people, but don’t know any.

Everyone tries so hard to be different, that they all look and act the same.

The only successful self made people I know there are in real estate, convincing people to sell their houses to transplants. Most others work in retail or in bike shops, and even live in the storage room.

I have lived in the Pacific NW since 1969. My parents moved here when I was in high school. I attended university here, graduated, went to work, joined the U.S.Navy from here, came back and went to work again.

I do not care how most people live their lives and that seems to be the case with most people here, as liberty is highly valued. But no more as Liberals are intolerant and I draw the line at an assault.

In 1978 I was assaulted by two men while walking in downtown Portland. It was broad daylight, across from Pioneer Square when the two men forced me up against a building, spit on me while screaming “BREEDER SH!T”. Both were small men and seemed frightened rather than hostile. Did I get angry? No, I just wiped the spit off my clothes and kept walking.

This was not the first time I had encountered rudeness from gay men in Portland. Those events have prevented me from working and living there. The rural areas are just fine.

You ought to go and post this for discussion on the Oregon State board.
I bet you’ll get some reaction.

Here in Florida we obviously get a whole passel of folks from New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Ohio etc.
Seems nearly every damn one of them thinks every thing is better from the crap hole from which they came.
Course they still move here in droves to escape crappy weather, high tax rates, high crime and still the quote you always here is, “well that’s not the way we do things up (wherever).

As Michael Savage points out, “ Liberalism is a mental disorder”. You simply can't argue with crazy. If you are trying to get your liberal friend to see the truth, I think what you hoping to accomplish is unattainable. Yes, there are people who have been on the Left and have seen the light. But you generally can't use logic with liberals. As Ronald Reagan pointed out, “It isn't so much that liberals are ignorant. It's just that they know so many things that aren't so.” From my own experience, even when you present facts to them, they won't acknowledge the truth. Or they simply move the goal post and agree that what they formerly thought was wrong under Bush is really okay because it is being done by Obama or another leftist politician, or it is for the “common good”, or whatever excuse they can come up with. Then they will refer back to their bumper sticker arguments, as firmly committed to their left-wing ideology as before.

Portland is a beautiful city with great neighborhoods, restaurants, bookstores, arts and craft festivals, great antique stores, hardware stores (not chain) and great neighborhood pubs. It’s a nice place.

It is also very white and un-diverse with regard to politics and points of view. They even mostly dress the same! Once I was at a restaurant and lost track of who my waitress was because they all looked exactly the same ... piercings everywhere, tattoos, strange haircuts, drab clothing, etc. Which is fine, doesn’t bother me but I find it ironic that they do all that to be unique and different ... but it’s just another form of uniformity, not uniqueness.

I will say the worst instance of racism I ever personally witnessed was in Portland OR (and I’ve been a lot of places). I saw some young white men in a pickup truck throw beer bottles at a middle aged black woman sitting at a bus stop. They turned around and came back to throw more stuff at her but she fled into the adjacent (white affluent) neighborhood. I went looking for her to see if she was hurt but could not find her. I can only imagine she was hiding under some shrubbery or something. It was sickening and still is sickening to think about this to this day.

Don’t let anyone ever tell you that the northeast doesn’t have racism. They have their issues like anywhere else in the world.

There are plenty of churches there, whether or not they are well attended I cannot say. Probably not as much as other areas of the country.

Black people are small minority and live mostly in one area of town that is more affordable. Portland home prices are very expensive if you live what they call “close-in” in the many beautiful leafy green neighborhoods with many beautiful and expensively restored old houses, mostly from the 1890’s to the 1930’s. If you love old houses and older buildings, Portland is a place you’d love. They didn’t tear down everything and put up crap 1960’s and 70’s architecture like so many cities did ... so it has a lot of character.

The suburbs are just like anywhere USA. Totally unremarkable.

The natural beauty of the area can hardly be beat and there are numerous places to get out into nature in stunning landscapes. Portland is warmer and not as rainy as cities along the coast of Washington but it can bet pretty damn dreary in winter if you are not used to it. Plus people seemed to me dress in drab colors. A lot of black, brown and gray. I would wear a colorful outfit and people looked at me like I was from outer space (did I mention the lack of diversity?) I guess like everywhere else, people tend to want to fit in and so they all try to look the same. I’ve noticed this in many places around the world. The only reason it is remarkable in Portland is that they seem to make such a big deal about being ‘diverse’ and unique. They are not. They are the same as people everywhere in their own way.

I found this YouTube video of Ben Shapiro very instructive. The topic is ‘Ben Shapiro shares some tips on dealing with a liberal.’

It’s just under an hour, but well worth listening to...
