Her husband is the leading Republican candidate for the White House and hopes to pull off an unprecedented feat: to be the third member of the same family to hold the presidency.
But at Jeb Bush’s side, his wife Columba also stands to make history. She would, of course, be the third Mrs Bush in the White House.
But she would – crucially – be the first Hispanic first lady, and only the second born outside the United States.
Columba has kept herself out of the limelight since he announced his plan to run, as she has throughout his political career.
But Daily Mail Online can today reveal the remarkable story of how the daughter of a Mexican peasant from a farm without running water joined America’s premier political dynasty; and the sad family rift which has marred that journey to the gates of the White House.
Columba, it can be disclosed, is the daughter of a man who crossed into American illegally to work, who was accused of beating her, and with whom she was never reconciled – even in death.

What was striking to me is that her father was illegal and in the body of the article it was reported that she and her sister lived here illegally for a time with her father in California.
That sounds like a good Texas country song someone on FR could sing.

Brings a new interpretation to the name “Conswaylow”.

Oh, they’re acknowleding her roots all right - in fact they are counting on her roots for votes - they just don’t want to have to associate with “her roots”.
I’m not sure divulging that her father was an illegal and that she lived with him as an illegal for a time are going to be plusses for the Bush campaign. :)
A little tired of hearing him referred to as the “leading candidate”.
He is the leading MONEY RAISING candidate which is an indication of how the GOPe and their supporters buy elections while the democrat party buys votes, votes graveyards, votes illegals, and stuffs ballot boxes.
The GOPe throws money at witless, worthless candidates they can control like the shrub and his (il)legal immigrant wife and lose while the democrat party covers all of the bases and generally wins.
Oh, they’re acknowleding her roots all right - in fact they are counting on her roots for votes - they just don’t want to have to associate with “her roots”.
Before we get too judgmental here, knowing what we know about child molestation by hispanics (look at records in NC alone) is it possible something much more tragic happened between Columba, and her father? Part of the family knows and has kept secret, and that’s why she wants nothing to do with them?
Or maybe they have been trying to glom onto the Bush money since they got married? You can help people, but for some it’s never enough. If she hadn’t severed the relationship, how many of that “poor” family would still be trying to feed at the Bush trough?
As far as her relationship with Jeb, it seems it was love at first sight, and still is. At least she’s not his beard like the current occupant of the WH.
I’ve seen a couple of people on here call her a “Mexican Dwarf”, and stuff like this is out of line. As a matter of fact if I had seen her when Jeb met her we might have been in competition for her affection (from the pictures I saw). I have always been crazy for small dark haired women, I married one.
We can criticize Jeb’s policies all we want with out personal attacks on his or any other candidate’s family, UNLESS that family member jumps in the fray, and paints the political bulls-eye on themselves. So far she hasn’t.
That’s why as much as I dislike Obama, his girls for me were off limits, until one of them went to work for Lena Dunham. Now she’s fair game. By the way as a side note, do we know if L. Dunham is related to Obama’s mother? Isn’t it the same last name?
I know some of you will say the other side does it, look at what they did to the Bush twins. Well to that I say we stay classier than that scum. This is one instance where we should be the better people, and not get in the dirt with them. The American people for the most part do notice that difference.
