Got to see Schickele perform live in the '80's. It was a riot. He even had "groupies" who came dressed in medieval garb.

I’m particularly fond of P. D. Q. Bach’s “Pervertimento for Bagpipes, Bicycles, and Balloons”.
“That was the Toot Suite, from the O.K. Chorale, Schickele no. 212 degrees...”
His oratorio “The Seasonings”, Schickele no. 1/2 tsp...
Both the “Quodlibet” and “The Unbegun Symphony” are classic works for full orchestra.
Then some of the period instruments: the “Windbreaker”, the “Slide Windbreaker”, and the “Lasso D’Amore”, the latter originated by 18th Century Viennese cowboys.
Still have on VHS Prof. Schickele’s 2000 duo performance with Itzak Perlman & the Boston Pops. Priceless.
Which I believe was originally titled by his friends as "The Pathetic Symphony". But then he got a new group of friends and they titled it "The Unbegun Symphony".

It does take an unsurprisingly large amount of talent and skill to successfully bring humor into areas like classical music. I have a comedy section in my collection with several of ‘Professor’ Schickele’s albums along with Anna Russell’s Wagner parody and some of Victor Borge as well.
I remember being entertained by Mr Schickele at a performance in a fine old 1920s movie palace, where if memory serves, he first appeared on stage by descending a rope. Money well spent by the memories this post reminds me of!

Alas, I moved from Illinois to the Sunshine State and the lone FM classical station in my Florida area went out of business and now I'm bereft of my portable radio pleasures at home from room to room, at the beach...and on my car radio.

My mom dragged me to one of his concerts back when I was in High School.
By the time the final curtain came down my mom was a great mom again. I loved the concert.
I had such a good time. He had a song with a slide whistle that made me laugh.
