Where does the insurance get the money?

The bill is outrageous. The most appalling part of it is that she had no earthly idea what the cost would be until after the services were rendered? Would ever hire anybody under those circumstances for anything else? Well, education works that way to. And it too costs a crazy amount of money.

Insurance company will pay only a fraction of the bill.
There are “arrangements” between hospitals and insurance companies.

The reason paper bill is so high because they want the patient to see it, and never take a chance of canceling health insurance.

You really think the emergency room is a place to comparison shop? You're kind of a captive customer.
