Wheaties looks beyond breakfast with HefeWheaties beer

MINNEAPOLIS, The makers of Wheaties announced the "Breakfast of Champions" is expanding to later in the day with its latest product, a craft beer dubbed HefeWheaties.

General Mills announced on its website it is partnering with Minneapolis craft brewery Fulton for a limited release of HefeWheaties, an American Hefeweizen beer inspired by the cereal.

"We were intrigued from the get-go on this idea for many reasons, including that we're both Minneapolis companies, and that the beer and the cereal both started from the same place in terms of raw ingredients and the same city," said Ryan Petz, president and co-founder of Fulton.

"We had been sampling a number of Hefeweizens, so we had been discussing with the Wheaties team what we liked," Petz said. "Someone on the team said HefeWheaties, and it kind of sprung out from there."

Cans of HefeWheaties will be available for a limited time in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area beginning Aug. 26 and cereal-loving beer enthusiasts may want to start planning road trips now -- "HefeWheaties will not be available for shipment or purchase outside of Minnesota," General Mills said.

"Want to celebrate like a champion? Now you can," General Mills said in a post on the official Wheaties Twitter account.

So, you pour it over your Wheaties instead of milk?

It’s pretty simple to make beer out of breakfast cereal.
I even made beer out of stale rye bread.

Hey, when the whole country is a prison, everything gets made into pruno. That’s my policy.

I heard the product name Hefe-Wheaties Beer, and I thought they were misspelling “Jefe”, a spanish word meaning Chief or Boss. The beer could still be marketed to play up that
second meaning
in certain parts of the country.

Served warm, it will go well with that other staple of the breakfast of champions in a college dorm, cold pizza.

Did for me...but mine are regular man-boobs...courtesy of Erdinger, Paulaner, Franzikaner and Augustiner. I was addicted once...but am in recovery. I have yet to have an American “hefe” that has the yeast right. Plus they hop everything in the US!

LOL! Just about to say, why don’t they put Cate on the can?

Maybe they're planning on using Cate for their brand of "Near Beer".

"All the bitterness without the b@lls."

... Wait, I guess Cate still has b@lls. Never mind.

“I have yet to have an American “hefe” that has the yeast right.”

Thats why I make my own beers at home, my hefes and wits are spot on. I generally do not like super hoppy beers which seems to be the rage these days, but we created a white ipa which is basically a cross between a belgian wit and an ipa, but with both parts toned down a little, and everyone has gone bazonkazoids over it, can’t brew it fast enough
