Lawyers: US-born kids harmed by denial of birth certificates

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Lawyers asked a judge to intervene on the behalf of immigrant families who were denied birth certificates for their U.S.-born children because Texas health officials refused to recognize as valid certain forms of foreign identifications, according to court papers.

The lawyers filed for an emergency injunction in an Austin federal court Friday, saying that harm has been done to children and their families who need the birth certificates to enroll in school and ensure parental rights. The lawyers have asked that the Texas Department of State Health Services name two reasonable forms of identification available to the immigrant parents who are here illegally, allowing them to receive the birth certificates.

The parents, who came from Mexico and Central America, live in Texas, the majority in the Rio Grande Valley along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Although the parents are not U.S. citizens, their children are, because the U.S. Constitution's 14th Amendment guarantees the right of citizenship to anyone born on American soil.

Give them their birth certificates; ship them, along with their illegal families, back to Mexico. When they are 18, they can come back into the US and reap the benefits.

What?

illegals can and should get birth certificates from a US hospital

A piece of paper that validates a time and date of birth and parentage, does not bestow citizenship

No where on MY 1948 birth certificate does it say anything about the citizenship of my parents nor me ... at least I don't remember

Now I've gott'a go look

damn

Illegal mothers comes here to drop their babies. Taxpayers pay for the hospital stay. Anchor baby then has welfare, healthcare, and education all on the American taxpayer’s dime.

She shouldn’t be motivated to break our laws. We need to change that.

At least some of these children were not born in a hospital, they were presented for birth certificates and a claim they were born here. Other issues- parents in some cases cannot prove who they are or where they came from. I don’t see how they can be issued a birth certificate based only on their claims with no documentation. How can a state issue a document verifying baby Doe was born here and is the child of John and Jane Doe if they have nothing to back it up?

Tell the parents they will be arrested and deported the first time they set foot in a courtroom and their kids will be placed in state foster care. Schedule their court date within 48 hours and the problem will disappear.

They are citizens of another country and not The US. Therefore the 14th Amendment does not apply to them. As it read “and subject to the jurisdiction of this country”. That is why they are deported.

Ask Madelyn Dunham.

When I was a kid, we called children of Italian immigrants: WOPs. Nothing wrong with that then, nothing wrong with it now.

The lawyers, who now represent 27 parents and their 32 children

Send the parents back to mexico and their kids can go with them, and if they parents don't take their kids with them back to mexico, then these 32 little moochers can live in caves or on the streets.

Without a birth certificate, it can be difficult for parents to access medical care, travel, school enrollment and other benefits available to U.S. citizens.

Go back to mexico and get your medical benefits there.

"School is about to start, and they can't go,"

Of course they can't go, the seats in the schools are for the kids who live in the neighborhoods here. All 32 of these little moochers can get out and go back to mexico. And if these parents are able to get them into our schools, then the parents need to give their 32 little moochers money to Pay for lunch at school. There will be no free tacos and burritos provided here.

Good points in your post #8. For all we know these 32 kids may not even be the children of the 27 parents. These 32 kids real mothers could be local prostitutes in mexico.

Then they’re definitely Democrats and probably have bright futures in politics.
