There’s 4 times of the year that have been highly commercialized to move product, especially chocolate, only 2 with a real religious connection. Based on warehouse activity, they are (in order)

Christmas
Halloween
Easter
Valentine’s Day

The candy manufacturers are the main beneficiaries of Halloween, not the Devil

Used to be a “once a year” indulgence in the dark side of the human psyche. Or maybe an occasional eerie Vincent Price or Hammer film. Now it’s a whole industry of sadism that runs 24/7/365

Since Reformation Day is on the 31 the folks used to dress like priests and pass out indulgences to all the RCatholics in the neighborhood who came to the door while we dressed like German monks complete with hammers and nailed everyone’s mailboxes shut.

Just kidding.

My 2 closest friends at the time were RCatholic and we would go out and have a good time meeting all the neighbors. There was a lonely widow down the street who used to make home made popcorn balls for us, expecting us to stay and visit for a while, which we did, and with the good kids and good neighbors out and about that night there was no way for the bad kids or bad people to cause trouble.
The next week in school we would share the candy with the kids whose parents would not allow them to join in, we understood, and they understood, in the way kids do, that it is not what goes in that makes you unclean but what comes out. If you are well grounded in Christ, nothing has power over you.

Halloween is what you let people make it to be, so take it away from darkness and make light of it. If you leave a vacuum, evil will fill it up.

Dang! I used to hoard the candy ..... it was especially gratifying to have my older brother say, *Where’d you get that?* ...as you savored a tootsie roll, with a big grin, in front of him.

When we lived in Simi Valley, CA, mini-vans would come to our subdivision, kids would pour out as if it were a clown car, and the hooligans would race up and down the streets, greedily grabbing stuff from every house. They’d get back in the van and move on — to another subdivision, I assume.

We don’t participate. If at home, our lights are off and the house is relatively quiet. Sometimes we help with a kids’ program at church.

Adding insult to injury, besides the Satan-centered actual Halloween “celebration”, sometimes the little freaks are collecting money for commie UNICEF. It’s a creepy, creepy time of the year.

It's eternal and non political/sexual/satainc unless you make it so. Dad would be well into his 90s if he were alive today and did the same things kids today, for the most part, do

I have NEVER seen anyone dress like Jesus and rather than take a treat, pass out a tract ...

So...why haven’t you?

When my [now] adult boys, visit during this time of year....they still look for my *stash* of Halloween candy...as they *graze* through my house. Makes me chuckle.

It’s all good.

Just how many kids gave up a bag of candy for that UNICEF crap? I never meant any. I thought those old commercials were satire.

Has anyone ever had any young left wing goons come to your door and yell "TRICK OR TREAT FOR UNICEF"? Now that would be scary.

They don’t “give up” candy; UNICEF is in addition to candy. I don’t see it much any more, but sometimes. Definitely not here in TN. More in CA. It was big years ago — maybe starting in the ‘60s. Not sure

To quell the outliers on our street ... my neighbor comes down and we sit on the front steps with the BIG Black Lab between us, handing out candy .... surprised how many don't even come up the walkway when they see the black dog......the neighborhood kids all *know* the dog and come to hug him.

Great fun to see all the kids and parents....soon, winter will be here and we'll all be hunkered down, inside....not to see our neighbors again until ice out.

It is a celebration of the Satanic and death. Heck, even the Satanists claim that Halloween is their high holy day.

It has morphed from little kids in cute costumes going through the neighborhood in search of some candy into a pagan death festival that celebrates the demonic and evil - and it is adults who are acting this way.

Family who hung 'corpse' from a tree and impaled a bloody 'body' on a stake take down gruesome Halloween display after neighbors complain

If people cannot recognize the Satanic when it is right in front of them, then they should be called what they are: blind fools.

Halloween is a subject of controversy in the US Orthodox Church.

Since I am an “extremist”, I say NO to Halloween, especially with the emphasis on the demonic and on gore in Halloween 2015!!!!

The there is the increasing takeover of the calendar by the “gay” lobby. You know—”pride” week, “pride” month, AIDS Day, “spirit” day, “day of silence”, etc. Now they have some new excuse to take over October, whatever that is. Halloween has ALWAYS—in living memory, been a “gay” day. I say let the “gays” have it, and let Christians leave it alone!!!!

Halloween has always been about the demonic, really! In the Western Church, there is All Saints Day to try to counteract it. But in America 2015, that does not work! The Eastern Orthodox Church has a different day for All Saints, which has NOTHING to do with Halloween whatsoever!!!!

The Orthodox Church has many feast days throughout the year. And we focus on kids at least one Sunday in September or October with the opening of Church School. So let’s leave Halloween alone!!!!

This year when any teens with no costume show up I will be dropping condiments from various fast food places in their bags. I also have a bunch of pecans to get rid of.

The sad fact is that we don’t have any “holidays” that haven’t been corrupted to some extent by the purely secular and pagan influence. Even the true meaning of Christmas has been all but drowned in our society by the commercial, the mercenary and materialistic society in which we live. The same goes for Easter with it’s bunnies and eggs that overshadow the real glorious meaning of it.

Satan is a master planner. It takes decades and generations to lull a society to sleep and dull it’s perceptions of what is good versus what isn’t.

You’re so right about what you say. I don’t “do” Halloween either but my kids and grandkids do. They’re not allowed to go out but they have a party at church where goulish costumes aren’t allowed. Still, the concept; in my opinion, has no place in a house of worship.

The “generation of vipers” spoken of in Scripture most likely doesn’t arise out of thin air. It will take decades of subtle(Satan’s specialty) insinuation and brainwashing by the media and society to produce them. How close are we, I wonder. Given the atmosphere of current events: I think we’re pretty far along.

I have discussed Halloween with a number of good Christian pastors and they uniformly believe that it has its origins as a pagan, anti-Christian holiday.

Most Christian holidays have their roots in pagan festivals. Early evangelists simply co-opted the festivals and repurposed them with Christian themes in order to gain converts.

I do not care what the origins of Halloween are; the Christian holiday that was imposed on it is the eve of All Hallows' Day (aka All Saint's Day). Early Christians believed that the devil and his minions ran rampant on the eve of the sainted day, and so dressed up in scary costumes to scare away the demons. We have shortened "All Hallows' Day Eve" to "Halloween" but we have partially retained the rituals. However, I am not certain that the sight of a 6 year old dressed like a storm trooper is going to frighten demons.

*In the Western Church, there is All Saints Day to try to counteract it.*

Are you sure about that? My understanding is that All Saints and All Souls are related .... a time to pray for, honor the departed souls of our kin.

The root word of Halloween - ‘’hallow’’ - means ‘’holy.’’ The suffix “een” is an abbreviation of “evening.”

Why do you hate candy? ;)

Can you show me that in the Bible? Because it’s not in mine.

I don't celebrate Halloween and you shouldn't either.
I don't own a gun, you shouldn't either.
I don't eat meat, you shouldn't either.

Sorry but you sound like a Liberal.
