Trump reminds me of "us"
The Daily Item ^ | Sunday, November 15, 2015 2:45 am

Posted on 11/15/2015 12:44:15 AM PST by Cringing Negativism Network

(this is a very short posting, apparently a letter to the editor, but I really like it)

Is Donald Trump a reminder of how we were in the 1970s?

I am a baby boomer and have a political attraction to Trump. Something was familiar about him.

He uses his freedom of speech with no fear. Threats will not persuade him to change who he is. He seems to be against “the establishment” which in my day meant a government too long not being for and by the people.

Gee, he reminds me of “us,” hippie or flower children way back in the 1970s, protests for Vietnam, Nixon and Watergate. What do you think? I think it’s about time.

Don’t forget to fight for your rights or they will be taken away.

This appeared on the news search, and I like it.

It isn't a real article. It is just a short letter, but it is completely true.

So here it is. Link included.

Donald reminds me of the Kennedy’s in the way I used to think about them, before all the gossip overwhelmed any civic sense of purpose. I know nobody is perfect, but there is something about Donald that helps me to believe Heroic leadership can still be part of America. I say this in full knowledge of his shortcomings, compulsions and eccentricities. We need someone if not Trump, then a lot like him. Cruz will do as an understudy.

I’m not a Boomer, and Trump opened my eyes in more ways than one.

For that, I’m extremely grateful.

I remember when we could all say the things he does and no one sobbed into their aprons over it.

It was a crazy time, all that free speech and ideological liberty.

We’re not a “silent majority”, we’re the muzzled majority.

Trump is the first true ^AMERICA FIRST^ presidential candidate since I was naturalized US Citizen in 1970. Reagan was close, but not as fearless fighting the leftist media as Trump. Reagan was talked into giving full amnesty to 2 or 3 million illegals. That will not happen with Trump.

Unlike the Kennedys, even though Trump is a billionaire many times over, he sounds like any regular person. He doesn't talk down to anyone, he doesn't make "flowery" nor PC speeches, and he speaks in plain English, not snotty Ivey Leaguese.

And he cares about the same things we do; he could easily be a FReeper!

I’m a baby boomer. When he talks he relates to things like conservative baby boomers have always. He may cloak himself on certain issues as be to the left now and then, because it was expedient for him to do so for his family and business, and then too, maybe his views did evolve.

But if you hear him talk about things, he is very much a baby boomer. He loves old movies and the actors in those movies. He makes references to things that are no longer in our vocab, like “I like Ike.”

Each time he gives a speech his love of country sneaks out, unabated. It’s not phony.

When you google his name, you always find something fresh, funny and transparent, eg like the time he shave McMahon’s (?) head on World Wrestling or when he took the bucket challenge.

He’s a baby boomer with a slight New Yorker twist to it. His frankness, I GUARANTEE WILL RESONATE WITH BLUE COLLARS.

I PREDICT THAT THE UPCOMING NEW YORK POLLING WILL SHOW TRUMP AHEAD OF EVERYONE, INCLUDING HILLARY.

In short, this is a man, who teaches you when you hear him. Here’s a man who is destined to lead us.

WE MUST PRAY TO KEEP HIM SAFE. THAT IS THE ONLY WAY HE WILL NOT WIN NOW, IF SOMEONE ASSASSINATES HIM.

Most importantly (imo) is the global popularity he has generated

Ask anyone a generic question;

Name a politician

guess what?

Trump

And he cares enough to make his speeches clear and fluid and entertaining. No pomposity, except to impersonate others’ pomposity.

Donald Trump reminds me of one of the Rat Pack. He has a 1950’s flair about him. Sometimes I’m reminded of a 1940’s radio announcer or entertainer of just stories.

Name another righty candidate in the last 25 years that could even have a dream of winning in NY, NJ or CT? Cruz is terrific but he couldn’t ever even dream it.

I agree. And if you listen to the people out there, many of them are democrats who believe is what Trump says, esp about Carson and Bush and Rubio.

I think on the outside many people on the left admire a person like Ben Carson, but on the inside they despise the man, esp the black left just like they do Clarence Thomas.

Trump softened is tone on Carson when he spoke in TX Friday. It was a serious somber speech, probably his best. My brother, had he listened, would have been a true believer afterwards.

TV shows and movies that could *never* happen, now.

Out of left field, did anyone else see the Campbells’ soup commercial with “two dads”, imitating Darth Vader’s “I am your father...” to their cute little “son”?

I nearly puked.

They react to Trump the way they reacted to Andrew Dice Clay almost 30 years ago.

Reagan had a deal that the wall would be built & he would agree to amnesty one time. The issue is those darn liberals in congress would not find the wall - kinda like if Republicans in congress had real balls, they would not find Obamacare.

Trump goes back to a time when no integrated schools existed yet, we had a war that was starting and it was not until 66 that a very few of the guys I had grown up with even tried marijuana. Many of us were going on to college or were there or were going to Vietnam. We have got to throw the illegals back into Mexico and no we cannot let Muslims into America. We need Trump to get rid of the Gov intrusion in our everyday lives as it is now.
