Millions of children across America will rush down their stairs on Christmas morning to find a pile of presents waiting for them under their trees.
But for thousands of families there will be less gifts than they planned - after FedEx admitted it did not make all of its scheduled deliveries on time for the big day.
With just hours to go until Christmas, the delivery service admitted defeat, infuriating scores of customers whose festive plans are now ruined.

The problem is that their promises depend on perfection. Any potential delays for weather or traffic tie-ups or the unforeseen aren't factored in.
Does this mean I still might get something other than that damn lump of coal?
Correct me if I am wrong, but is Christmas not the day when we are to celebrate the Savior’s birth? Gifts are nice, but haven’t we already received the best one of all? If a kid is crying on Christmas day because they only got 10 presents instead of 12, then that’s something that no material item can fix.

FedEx made five deliveries to me this past week on three different days, all Christmas gift cartons.....all on time. One reason is that we're having idyllic weather here in Florida.
Today I saw some TV film clips of the perfectly-ghastly weather conditions these guys were fighting in many parts of the country. Boy, did I feel for them. I also saw clips of the incredible, unanticipated volume of packages never experienced before because everyone is ordering over the web now and not going to malls. The company will certainly adjust next year.
If your little snowflakes don't get their CareBears and Lego sets till tomorrow or the next day, too freepin' bad. Life is not always a bowl of cherries, and it won't hurt the little darlings if they got a few cherry pits this Christmas. In fact, might be good for them to learn some life lessons and how to cope with them.

If you really want it there overnight, pay for the overnight delivery. But make sure it’s ready for shipping.

I use Amazon Prime for most everything also, and it is an excellent service. Two-day delivery, and I can count on one hand the times they have been off by at most a day. Other stores I have ordered from are also pretty good.
Surprisingly perhaps, I have few delivery complaints. Perhaps that’s because I live in the suburbs of Chicago rather than in a more rural or small town area, but I have had in general, very good delivery service and those I have sent packages to other than myself, have arrived in a timely manner also.
I think too many people wait until the very last minute, which doesn’t allow for problems caused by not being home on the day of delivery, or inclement weather conditions. Moral of story: don’t wait until the last minute.
FedEx doesn’t deliver to my area, because it’s too far from their nearest big city for their liking. They were going to return the package that they were supposed to ship after telling the lie that I wasn’t home to receive it. The expensive automotive part in the package was broken, when I picked it up from a business closer to them.
I don’t order through Amazon, because Amazon won’t ship through a carrier of my choosing. There are many other vendors that will ship through a particular carrier like UPS or the Postal Service.
No I don't have it backwards. It may be the case that they have such contracts. However FedEx also has a low-rate ground service where they pickup a company's packages and those packages are subsequently delivered to the USPS for long haul ground transport and eventual DELIVERY. This was explained to me BY FEDEX when the first of many lost or overdue packages I've had in the last year was three weeks overdue. I have already instructed suppliers that I do business with to NEVER use that service/rate.

The news article mentioned thousands of late deliveries; but, also mentioned 137 million FedEx deliveries since 26 Nov 2015.
In other news UPS resorted to renting U-Haul trucks for use for auxiliary package handling, to cope with an unexpectedly high number of deliveries.
If it still tracks in Fedex system since then and hasn't moved, it's lost. I ordered from Amazon and they sent it UPS ground. I tracked it to Laurel, MD where it sat for two days. I emailed them (amazon) and they confirmed it to be lost. If it sits longer than a day or two and weather can't be blamed it's probably lost in the system.
Sorry, I've delivered to many a methlab in Western Maryland and WV. Fedex will attempt just about anywhere (unless your Pitbulls or rutted road will ruin the truck and my skin)
Their lack of planning does not create an emergency.
