Elvis Aaron Presley (January 8, 1935 - August 16, 1977) was an American singer and actor. Regarded as one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century, he is often referred to as "the King of Rock and Roll", or simply, "the King".
Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, as a twinless twin, and when he was 13 years old, he and his family relocated to Memphis, Tennessee. His music career began there in 1954, when he recorded a song with producer Sam Phillips at Sun Records. Accompanied by guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black, Presley was an early popularizer of rockabilly, an uptempo, backbeat-driven fusion of country music and rhythm and blues. RCA Victor acquired his contract in a deal arranged by Colonel Tom Parker, who managed the singer for more than two decades.
Thanks for the memories. Despite his personal demons he remained patriotic, generous, and humble.
Elvis invented cool.....
it’s my wife’s birthday as well.
I’m sorry, FRiend!
I mistakenly read your name as “Dracula”. :)
We did an Elvis tour at Christmas time.it was great!
Richard M. Nixon tomorrow, Jan 9.
No hard feelings FRiend!
Still a lot of Presleys in Lee County. In 2001 his cousin, Sheriff Harold Ray Presley was shot and killed by a suspected kidnapper after a pursuit.
Another story of the Presley Family in Tupelo says the family was “escorted” to the county line by the sheriff’s Dept. Vernon really did not have a stellar reputation back then.
Birthplace house and museum museum is a great place to visit. And if the right guide is there, more than worth the price of admission. The “right guide” being one that fills in the missing chinking in the cracks. :)
Unlike Elvis, I made it to 55 today!
You gotta admit, that was pretty funny. :)
Every August, Friedberg, Germany, where Elvis served in D Co, 1st Battalion, 32nd Armored Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 3rd Armored Division, they have a big ‘Elvis Days’ celebration.
Thank you...thank you very much!
Elvis was born cool!
The day the news broke that he died is a day that will always be remembered. It was the reality of foreseeing the death of a culture in which we grew slowly vanishing. I was in a state of shock for many a moon. Though many try, there was never and will never be another Elvis.
His music still moves me.
Happy Birthday! ....:-) old man. May you age longer and more gracefully than Elvis.
