The first thing a great many people, politicos, and non-politicos alike, said in private conversations when they heard the news that Sarah Palin would endorse Donald Trump is, "What did he pay her?"
That may be an unfair question, but it's perfectly fair to put it this way: "What has Donald Trump done for Sarah Palin?" Meaning, what has Trump done to promote the values that Palin's supporters have been advocating for the past eight years?
For starters, look at the three major issues that gave rise to and have animated the Tea Party since 2008 when then-Governor Palin burst on the national scene: The bailouts, the stimulus, and Obamacare.
At several points in her endorsement speech, Palin decried 'the establishment,' a term that became popular in response to Republicans and Democrats cooperating to prop up Wall Street banks after the 2008 financial crash. Palin supporters, by and large, vehemently opposed the bailouts.
Did Trump? When the time came to choose between the Tea Party activists and his friends in the New York/Washington corridor, Trump chose the latter.
Donald Trump was no Rick Santelli. Trump was for the $700 billion bailout program, which is as establishment as it gets. He was for the subsequent auto bailout, too.
President Obamaâs $787 billion stimulus bill? Yep. You betcha. Trump was for that.

Another question is what is Trump going to do for Palin?
I think she’s a plus for the primaries and a non-factor in the November election. I suspect if Trump wins the nomination, she will be pretty invisible after labor day.
maybe Cruz asked her to do this to sink Trump. Trump sure didn’t look all that psyched to have her endorsement. And the last thing Cruz needs is more people thinking he’s a loon. After all. At this point, Palin is basically a cartoon in the eyes of the average American voter.
Another question would be her (as well as Cruz’s & conservatives, in general) stands against ethanol & Trump being for it...
Absolutely none of Trump’s long held positions matter to Trump supporters. They have all eagerly pressed the “I believe” button, and willfully disregard any possibility that they are being bamboozled.
Trump plays the media, who we all hate, like a fiddle, and that is enough apparently. Big government is now acceptable, if we are in charge.
I sure hope his supporters are right, but my five decades of life tells me that P.T. Barnum is usually more correct.
He wants to win Iowa and that is where he is betting her endorsement is more effective. It won’t fly in the big cities and I suspect when he is finished with her he will cast her aside.
He brags about putting absolutely the smartest and most talented people in his cabinet positions. And as much as I like her she will not fit that bill.
If he does lose Iowa his incestuous and childish attacks on Cruz will increase to seem like a “broadside”. He does not like to lose. I bet he is death incarnate playing tiddly winks.
I think for anyone who actually heard her speech (screech! actually), they were probably pretty put off by it. I wonder how Todd Palin can stand that every day...
Of course, that is heresy for a lot of FReepers. But there is a real question on what influence Palin has on the crossover voters that any Conservative (or Republican) must have.
Trump may have blundered here. And Ted may have dodged a bullet in not getting her endorsement.
Palin has shined the light on who trump is.
Daily News..LMAO!!!!
The No-So-Conservative Review.
They are part of the eGOP, part of the Uniparty.
I want an American in office and not just some political eGOP party hack like Jeb Bush that the “Conservative” Review wants!
Here's another one:
What politician in the race didn't want or wouldn't have taken a Palin endorsement? Whose heart wouldn't have skipped with joy, while they shouted about it to the heavens?
The answer is "nobody." They all wanted that endorsement, and if everyone wants it, it must be valuable.
Trump looked embarrassed by her.
Her *speech* was so fractured and almost incoherent ...reading bullet points doesn’t make a smooth speech.
So you’re gonna post front covers from a little pissant leftist rag?
I refuse to associate myself with that.
odd....the disclosure that Amanda Carpenter worked as Media Director for Ted Cruz appears nowhere on the linked page. Nor her connection with CNN.
In any case Amanda’s call in to the WMAL Washington DC morning drive time show was interesting. They must gave caught her at a bad time, stuttering and sputtering about the surprise Palin endorsement. Mystified one might say.
Carpenter to Cruz is as George Stephanopolis to Hillary...
Plausible. Hence, my comment that Ted may have dodged a bullet - Post 10.
He provides an adoring audience for her....and no more. I’m sure she thinks she’s even cooler now.
I think he took the endorsement...rather than the risk of her endorsing Cruz. Cruz sounded stunned.
