1 Rifle That Can Fire 23 Calibers? The Scavenger 6 Survival Rifle
Weapons Media ^ | January, 2016 | Staff

Tim Ralston has been the subject of a handful of Discovery Channel and History Channels spots, and was the inventor of the Chiappa X-Caliber as well as other firearms. His niche is survival or "bug out", and the ability to scavenge ammo is a top priority. The most common feedback from X-Caliber fans was "make it multi-shot!" In answer, Tim presents the Scavenger 6. It's a rifle that can fire 21 different calibers and swap between them in seconds . . .

I just ran across this article/video. The gun is in prototype status right now but I thought the idea was one that might prove of interest here.

Seems silly to think that in a survival situation a gun capable of firing various ammo is needed in case the user runs across random ammo.

Solution looking for a problem.

That, and why do gun companies think a beard and a serious look is necessary to fire a 22 rifle??

Seems like a good catch-all gun....apparently the cylinders are rifled barrels and what you’d normally think is the barrel is a hollowed tub that contains the slug when it’s shot. I’m guessing it’s necessarily large enough diameter to accommodate the largest caliber bullet that gets shot out of its rifled cylinder slot (7 inches). A total 6 shot capacity, but looks like it’s been split up with different sized cylinder positions so you couldn’t, for instance, load up 6 rounds of 22 LR. Still a neat idea, though.

Gimmick-I will pass. The gas escape from the barrel/cylinder gap must be awesome when firing a .270!

I am not sure if the Scavenger is a gimmick or not. but I do know, having only 1 Long gun and one handgun saves on weight and will be easier to carry.
What I want in a survival rifle is one chambered in a handgun caliber and has the capability to bring down a buck at a 100 yards. 38 Spec./357 Mag. has maybe the best ballistics, but the 45/410 gives the option of fowl occasionally. decisions, decisions, decisions.

How about a sling shot? It can shoot any size object I pick up.

Let’s see: Kill the enemy and use his ammo. It’s a win win. Saves money.

Isn’t this a short barreled rifle subject to BATF restrictions?

Nice idea, but there are better alternatives, IMO. One would be the X-CALIBER SET from Chiappa Firearms: http://www.chiappafirearms.com/products/163. I guarantee I can put more rounds downrange from a single shot breaching opening firearm than one with a cylinder where I have to look for the proper hole to put the next round into.

Another option is to carry your own reloading kit with you:

Lee Breech Lock Hand Press

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/665540/lee-breech-lock-hand-press

You can salvage powder and primers and mold new bullets to meet your need in the field. Even lead for the bullets can be salvaged.

One of my deceased uncle landed at Omaha on D-day. He dumped his pack, rifle and web belt in the landing craft and went over the side. He then swam to an obstruction on the beach and collected all the ammo he could carry and a another rifle. In the following days he had all the weapons, ammo, water and food he wanted. At one point he was using a Mauser. Virtually every man on the landing craft was killed at the ramp by withering German fire.

The early days of the SHTF scenario will be the same. Weapons and ammo literally lying around. Take your pick

First, beard are prominent in all of todays hit movies. The beard lets you know they are deep cover. If Al Qeida ever finds this man, he’s almost autodead. *(this explains why he in on youtube, making videos)
Also it lets you know he was probably what is called an “operator”. I am not sure why this is cool, but it appears to be the case. My mother was actually an operator in the 1940s. My respect for her has grown immensely.

Perhaps in another 50 years Marines, Seals, and Spec op types will be known as “waitresses”, or “cheerleaders”.

I fail to see the point. The Evil Black Rifle is THE most adaptable, THE most modular weapons platform yet created. Every AR15 clone and M4gery in existence can be configured to fire more different cartridges than languages spoken at the Tower of Babel, from .17 HM2 to .50 Beowulf, with nothing but a change of barrel, bolt carrier group (and usually just the bolt itself) and magazine. But Chiappa doesn’t build AR platforms because Italian law (a bill which Chiappa endorsed) prohibits them selling _anything_ in Italy that can use _any_ AR part or component, to include everything from telescoping buttstocks to magazines.

But goofy looking guns are their stock in trade (ever seen their ‘Rhino’ revolver?), so at least they’re consistent.
