Marco Rubio: Positions on immigration and taxes, plus his biography

NASHUA, N.H. (AP) — Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida sells himself as the most electable Republican and is viewed as the GOP mainstream's presidential contender. But he's struggled to tap the anti-establishment anger with time running out before the Feb. 1 Iowa caucuses. His campaign is downplaying early voting states, saying they expect a long campaign. Here's a quick look at some things to know about him.

The son of Cuban immigrants, Rubio won a Senate seat during the tea party wave of 2010, and has since broadened his appeal beyond the limited government, libertarian-leaning movement. At 44, he attracts younger voters — long a tricky reach for Republicans — and he would make history as the first Hispanic president. He's a strong fundraiser and in-demand campaigner.

Rubio was expected to brawl with his one-time mentor: former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. But he and Bush have been overshadowed by billionaire businessman Donald Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas. He's betting big that Republican voters across the political spectrum ultimately will coalesce behind his candidacy in the state-by-state slog for delegates.

The Florida senator has in recent weeks painted a portrait of himself as a passionate evangelical conservative, a national security hawk, an empathizer of immigrants in the country illegally, and someone who can bring new voters to the Republican Party. He has been hammered in television ads by opponents and super PACS that have cast him as a flip-flopper questioned his Senate attendance record.

IMHO, Marco Rubio's tax plan sucks compared to the plans proposed by Ted Cruz and Donald Trump. Donald Trump cuts more taxes than the rest of them and would, of course, necessitate deeper spending cuts which is something we're supposedly in favor of around here.

The only upside to a Rubio win would be that it would drive a stake into the heart of the establishment GOP.

Big thanks for valuable candidate’s tax plan post!
I haven’t seen the MSM make much discussion of this (no surprise there).
Wondering where fiscal, constitutional and politically conservative groups stand favoring which candidate?
Cato
Heritage
Nat’l Taxpayers Union
FAIR (immigration reform)
Judicial Watch
Rutherford Institute

It would be interesting to conduct a poll of the many Reagan Museum visitors and members to get their take.
Lord knows we need Ronald Reagan more than ever before...

How in the hell would a Rubio win drive a stake in the heart of establishment, he is establishment. Gosh how quick we forget the Gang of Eight. How easily we overlook this guy’s record is non-existent, he’s another part-time Senator like Obama.

I heard Rubio today defending being called establishment. He basically said that any candidate is going to have to embrace the establishment if they win the nomination. He just wants to bring everyone together.

This creep is supported by open-border big money and always has been.

How so?
I thought it’s widely perceived Rubio (Dondi) IS establishment GOPe based on MSM cheering his third place Iowa “win”.
Not sure if you were being sarcastic.

Trump's plan adds about $10,000 to my annual middle class household income. Rubio's tax plan doesn't look like it comes anywhere near that. It looks like a major win primarily for corporations and a few scraps tossed onto the floor for working people. Trump's plan is massive in comparison to any of the other plans.

Here's a comparison of the Trump and Sanders plans:

I know. The chart suggests the kind of spending cuts that will arise as a result of the various tax plans as if spending cuts are a bad thing. Trump’s plan will clearly require massive spending cuts.

The not very long term result of electing Rubio would be quite the same as the short term result of electing any Democrat. No matter how solid his conservative (outside of immigration) principles are, open borders and Amnesty, which he absolutely would promulgate, would create the Permanent and Total Democrat State. America would morph into the USSR of the 50s or even the 30s.
