That may be, but I wouldn’t feel one iota safe because of it.

Our government “powers that be” have decided that militant Islam is not a “threat”.

Our government knew in advance about the Fort Hood shooter, the Boston Bombers, and possibly the couple in San Bernadino.

It isn’t that we can’t find these people, authorities even paid a visit to the Boston brothers before their attack (but possibly after one had already murdered). There is pressure from above to look the other way and let them go.

Nadil Hasan at Fort Hood should have been stopped for communicating with Al Qaeda and publicly making death threats.

As long as your name isn’t Finchley, spying is all you need to expect from your machines.

Then there was the guy who figured out how to remotely control an ATM machine and somebody’s pacemaker. Somehow he died of a remotely controlled heart attack while still in his 30’s.

Then there was the guy writing about a BIG story for the Rolling Stone. He was concerned that his car had been tampered with. Somehow he died when his car careened off the road and into a tree. Somehow it exploded before it hit a tree.

If you’re concerned about security, turn off unneeded features (e.g., GPS). If you want a trustworthy operating system in a device, root it and install a free and open source operating system. If you want secure communications, use a VPN with encryption, or at least encrypt e-mails.

If you don’t want to learn to do it, oh well...

Looks like OpenBSD doesn’t use HTTPS. Tsk, tsk. The NetBSD URL still works, though.

They’ve been promising IPv6 for a decade or more but it still hasn’t been implemented yet thru our routers. The ability is there thru windows networking but the “pipes” aren’t. The issue is the money necessary to be spent to increase bandwidth and the issues with connecting everyone in the farflung marshes who are stuck with low speed satellite or horrors...dial up or DSL!

Been knowing this day would arrive since working as Systems Programmer in the days before personal computers. All it took was speed and managing the heat, and slowly the chips grew smaller, held more data and then cables, satellites, chips in important things, add RFID readers, voila Privacy? Hah, and they used to think I was just a bit paranoid:-) If I left out anything crucial, please correct.
