Is he being paid for his speaking appearance at this for-profit corporate conference?

What about Mrs. Obama who is giving a speech there next week,

Even the access badges are ‘compensation’ as the ‘get in any show’ badge runs $1000 while the peons’ wristbands (that don’t guarantee admission) are $200.

Has any other sitting president made such a speaking appearance during his term? This is different than a college graduation speech.

Well at least he’s not at Nancy Reagan’s funeral, FWIW. Unfortunately, we do know who is going in his stead.

“South by South West” is a music and art festival that happens over several days in the (keep in’ it weird) Austin area.

Already had a visit by the Secret Service yesterday. Didn’t announce themselves, but due to circumstances, pretty sure it was his pretty boys. Looked at everything in the office. They know who posts here and what we think. No problem. Even the emperor would not be able to stop the hand from writing on the wall.

33 miles north of ABIA. Heavy cloud cover.
Big plane flew over at 07:20 this morning.
Low and slow.

But the president has never dropped into town during the cluster of humanity and traffic downtown that is the South by Southwest Festival. His seven-hour visit Friday for a SXSW Interactive discussion on civic involvement in the digital age — followed by Democratic National Committee fundraisers at two locations — has Austin officials talking in apocalyptic terms about what Obama’s motorcade-related stoppages will do to Austin streets.

Their advice to work-a-day Austinites: stay away from the city’s core Friday, at least between about noon and 8 p.m. The city itself will have many of its employees telecommute or take that day off, and the Austin school district will let out students for the day just after noon (and right before the president’s arrival) at 15 schools mostly in Central and South Austin.

Also, everyone along the motorcade has been advised through the media to NOT be on their balconies (high rises), not be out in the front yard or on the porch, not to look at their windows or get on rooftops. Sounds like Moquetezuma passing through town (You could not look at him, you could not touch him, you could not turn your back on him - that leaves only bowing down very low to the ground.)

I was there a couple weeks ago to see my sister’s bands gig. Traffic was pretty bad Fri afternoon but we had a blast. 50 to 80% chance of rain today. Austin will come to a standstill this afternoon once the Presidents motorcade winds thru town.

Schools and businesses are closing, people are leaving Austin in droves…no one wants to hang around with the exception of the young Leftist geeks who are expected to give him some big checks for his library. Then he heads to Dallas to pluck cash from some aging Democrats there. Obama hates Texas except it’s the only place outside of CA that he can still scam some folks out of their dividend money.

Unfortunately, I read that Moochell is going. I wish that neither one of them would taint Mrs. Nancy Reagan’s funeral with their presence. Nancy Reagan showed her love for her husband each and every day and I have nothing but the utmost respect for her.
