How would rape go over with them?
I went there on January 1st 2013 and was there for over 2 months working with NMCI on the Marine bases and at the time there was another rape incident and even as contractors we were officially not to drink and under a curfew, unofficially however, they did not care as long as we kept a low profile about it.
The rapist is white this time so I guess some modern adjustment can be made. With the rising (or just being reported) rape rate in the military as a whole (male vs male, too) I think it is a symptom of our whole nation sliding into the immoral abyss that has been going on for decades.
When God dies there is no fear of consequences.
Amen. Look at Central and South America. Priest are begging for mass exorcisms because of the people rejecting God.
Fortunately when I took my squadron there for a deployment several years ago this didn't happen.
I still play golf with an Army machine gunner vet of Battle of Bulge (91yo). Also played with a WW2 USMC combat vet of Pacific theater (now deceased). Both were once single HC and could still shoot their age in the 80s & 90s even though our league was a scramble.
The Marine still hated Japanese cars and he would have been more than upset over the unilateral bow. Our life experiences determine our beliefs.
Not very well either.
My old man’s first combat was in the Ardennes (Bulge). Wounded there. Second Purple Heart was in Germany.
Good. That's the underlying problem.
The rapist has not only violated a woman and disgraced himself, he has disgraced his Service and his Country, and besmirched the memory of the men who liberated this island. I wouldn't be averse to hanging him from the nearest yardarm, if the Navy still has yardarms.
“...besmirched the memory of the men who liberated this island...”
No argument from me.
Was merely commenting on the sight of a Marine general bowing to a Japanese official, and what my uncles’ reactions would be - BOTH of them helped to liberate that island, and one of them almost died there.
And one last thing to note:
It’s still an “alleged” rape according to the article. This could be a case of a pissed off temporary girlfriend getting some payback as easily as it could be a legitimate criminal act.
Unless there’s definitive evidence that he did it, I think we should let the Man have his day in court under UCMJ and have all the facts heard before crucifying him.
We should NOT be defending ANY countries... they can defend themselves...
He deserves a fair trial. No argument there.
Your assertion has excellent merit.
Having been to Okinawa and seeing how servicemen (there and everywhere else) are routinely treated by the locals I suspect that the infrequent US Serviceman’s crime is far outstripped by the locals themselves. And the outrage is politically motivated.

More info, but no “he’s guilty” in it.
