why is the Jap official not bowing back at all ?
There are whores EVERYwhere, what the HELL is anyone raping in the first place ?
My YOBO was not paid per se' ... just cared for ... rent, food, money to spend ... it was just like marriage, going shopping etc.
Ha! I’d love to see the percentage of Marines that rape Okinawans vs Okinawans that rape Okinawans.
It doesn’t make the rape right but it is an interesting thought
“Any pictures of the perp? In most cases on the island its been a son of Obama committing the crime.”
In the video It kind of looks like he is Asian.
Oh, God. Not that!
probably got a call from Jarret.
When you are in the military in a foreign country you are an official representative of the United States. A better question would be how many Japanese officials come to America and rape American women. If you really wanted to just get mathematically accurate and compare Okinawans raping Okinawans, you could compare the rate of rape in America. In either case I think it would not look good for us.
My first instinct was to insult you but hopefully you might come to understand that trying to reason away rape as some law of averages is not a very honorable position to take.
LOL. Still the same even stateside. Boys will be boys.
The American Navy has lost the trust of this Japanese city.
Disgraceful. Hopefully the men responsible will be sent to the Brig or Captain’s Mast, if they still do that.
More info here ...
Lt. Gen. Lawrence D. Nicholson, III Marine Expeditionary Forces commander, visited Gov. Takeshi Onaga at his Naha office Wednesday in response to the arrest of Seaman Apprentice Justin Castellanos, 24, who is assigned to Camp Schwab.
Police say Castellanos found the tourist intoxicated and asleep in a hotel hallway, took her into his room and raped her between 1 and 4 a.m. Sunday.
A friend of the victim, who is in her 40s, called police after she heard the woman screaming for help and found her in Castellanos room with the suspect, who was a stranger to them, police said.
I was on Okinawa 67-69 with the MP’s. It was wide open. There were more whores than GI’s. Believe me, no respectable Oki girl would be in a hotel room with a US Marine if there wasn’t a previous business arrangement. Naha had a very well defined red light district.
Yes, there is a huge sex culture out here. Lots of S&M clubs, adult shops, BJ parlors, whatever. Sex is big in Japan. Its pretty cool.
The Marines need to reset the slate. They should pack up all their gear, board the ships, back-off a few miles then re-take the island.
I remember that incident. My former XO who was at that time CINCPACFLT made a comment to the press that the three should have bought themselves a hooker. He wasn’t CINCPACFLT for much longer.
The first one was before that. I got out of the service in ‘94. Served at CFAY Legal in Yoko for 6 months between ships and had to help with some of the logistics associated with some incidents in ‘92ish.
Older members I worked with recalled a similar situation in the early 80s. Seems this type of thing happens about every 10 years or so with 2-3 incidents each time.
If they approach it the way we did in the 90s they’ll be remanded to the Japanese prosecutors for trial and serve a large amount of time in the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) prison. Once released they’re court-martialled for disgracing the uniform.
Not sure if the SOFA is the same, but doubt it is much different. Main difference in the prison is that it is tailored for westerners as far as meals, etc.
I vaguely remember something like that occurring...this was near the time when PC started coming into play. Your XO spoke honestly and should be commended. He was accurate and the rape may not have happened had they taken his advice. Your XO is a man from a different time when being honest and unfiltered brutal honesty was respected and saved lives.
Had two uncles who fought on Okinawa in WWII; I can just imagine their reaction seeing a picture of a Marine general bowing to a Japanese official.
Would not go over well with them at all. Not... at... all.
Don't blame it on the Navy. Blame it on black enlisted personnel. Japan even petitioned to have the US military stay in Japan IF they excluded blacks. I think their version of SECDEF publicly said that he had no problems with Americans, just crimes committed by American blacks in the 90s.
Is Japan a racist country? No. However they have a VERY low level of tolerance for inappropriate behavior and violations of normal, polite, formal social etiquette.
