My son went to Oki with the Corps in 2014 and they were very restricted about what they could do and where they could go because of past Navy atrocities. My kiddo was there for 7 months and didn’t leave the base except for one official event.
Sad, too, since my mom loved Japan from when she worked at the Philly Naval Yard doing electrical drafting for Aircraft Carriers.

Police say Castellanos found the tourist intoxicated and asleep in a hotel hallway, took her into his room and raped her between 1 and 4 a.m. Sunday.
A friend of the victim, who is in her 40s, called police after she heard the woman screaming for help and found her in Castellanos’ room with the suspect, who was a stranger to them, police said.

It's been my experience in Okinawa that when sailors and marines get caught in the act with one of the local gals the first thing the little princess does is cry "rape" to save face. I won't say this was the case every time but every time I was there this was the case.
Fortunately when I took my squadron there for a deployment several years ago this didn't happen.
