Why not just have racks? Would be 8 beds in each row on a 777

Do they travel full often enough to warrant that change?

Why is this surprising? Unless airlines make standard coach seats as unbearable as possible then what incentive do you have to upgrade to the somewhat more expensive, slightly less tortuous premium seats? If you're flying domestically and you know you'll have 2 checked bags, sometimes it's worth it to check business class prices. Checked bags are included in the cost of the ticket (sometimes they allow higher weights). Then you add a meal vs paying for a $12 samich in a box. Sometimes the cost for the 2-1/2" of seat width, plus your own arm rest and a seat that reclines a little more, plus extra leg room are negligible.

Oh...I forgot, a separate check in lines and TSA lines.

When this thing came out, they had all these pictures of people in luxurious seats and a bar and lounge and all that nonsense. Most comfortable flights ever, they said. I and many other frequent travelers scoffed. “How long until the stuff in 15 people in a row and put the rows 11 inches apart?” And here we are. Will never fly in such a plane. Never.

When I'm not flying for business, and sometimes when I am, I generally fly Delta. Since my boyfriend is 6'3" then standard coach isn't even a consideration. If you select premium then you're usually offered the option to upgrade to first class for a reasonable sum. Factor in baggage fees and general convenience, and a lot of times first class is the better deal.

only adding 12 more people to a plane already carrying about 260. Won’t stress the capabilities much.

I used to fly “strapped to the wing” class. Roomy, good ventilation but the lawn chairs weren’t comfortable.

Only 12 coach rows in a 777? I thought it would be closer to 40.

There’s 7 more of my reasons why I hate them.
The difference between Delta and United is: Delta TRIES to do better.
I’m convinced, United is TRYING to be the worst airline flying

They just need to ban all carry-on luggage and just stow people in the overhead bin area. The size they are now would perfect for a kiddo or two or they could combine two into one and just lay two people down side by side. /s/.

Go to SeatGuru.com
They have all the airlines and airplane seating combinations.
Helps you decide what seat to choose before you fly.
