Canola oil tastes like soap.

"My personal preference was for Lux, but I found Palmolive had a nice, piquant after-dinner flavor - heady, but with just a touch of mellow smoothness. Life Buoy ....YUCK!"

It’s OK to me for some things, so long as it’s still hot. After it cools much at all, it seems to pick up a bitter aftertaste. It’s ruined the fries at many a fast food place that once had decent ones.

I buy corn oil for baking, so the cake won’t taste like soap.

Too late for me, but it’s nice of you to ask.

I really think plain old lard will turn out to be better in the long run for most things. Animal fat isn’t quite the bad thing it’s been portrayed to be.

I’ll always prefer Los Pollos Hermanos.

I’ve noticed that Dunkin Donuts keeps reducing the size of their donuts. Pretty soon, all that will be left is the hole.

Yep, Hershey’s really ruined the recipe, didn’t they?

Other product ruined: Hydrox cookies; Head & Shoulders shampoo; Grape Nuts cereal; Dial soap (easy-open wrapper tab disappeared [probably $0.001 per soap bar cost savings] and hollow back to shrink product size); and many more.

And I don’t know what. But Kentucky fried chicken isn’t the same as from when I was a kid either. Something just doesn’t taste the same. Im sure the hot shots have screwed that up too.

Could your taste buds have changed over the years?

I wouldn’t know one way or another, not haven’t eaten chicken since 1955.

And Oreos are now inedible because they have high fructose corn syrup in them.

And are also now made in Mexico.

Image so glad you posted this!! My friend and I were talking a week or so ago about how so many things from our childhood do not taste like they used to. I told her either we’re getting old, or maybe we have brain tumors or something!! Lol. Seriously, fries at any fast food place are inedible nowadays. Really, I thought it was just me.

It might not be all KFC’s fault. Well it probably is but my Mother used to make the best fried chicken when we were kids growing up in the 40s and 50s.

Some time ago, I noticed her fried chicken was not as good as it had always been. I mentioned it to her and she said that she knew but did not know why. She said she cooked it the same way she always had.

I suspect the quality of the ingredients or chicken had gone down.

So true about Dunkin’ Donuts. I think the trend to remove trans-fats from their recipes has changed the flavor (mouth feel) because they have to use some engineered substitute to make up the difference.

Their donuts aren’t the same at all, especially their glazed raised and crueler donuts.

When I was a kid, I loved Malt Balls. When I found Whoppers Malt Balls, I enjoyed them when I could. I bought a small package about a month ago, and noticed a considerable change in the flavor. Last time I’ll buy them.

I used to love Cadbury’s Dairy Milk, it was my favourite as a child. I saw some on sale the other day and on a whim I bought one, I couldn’t believe how unappealing it tasted, dry, dusty, flavourless.

I assumed it was just my memory playing tricks on me and it had always tasted that bad it’s just as a kid I had different standards, but I have since discovered that the new owners of Cadbury’s have actually changed the recipe.

I mean, what the heck? Did they think no one would notice? Did they think that people who buy something solely based on how it tastes might stop buying it if the taste deteriorated?
