The resolution says he was born on base, but I have read a dozen times here that he was born in a hospital in the COUNTRY of Panama.
He was born in the US military hospital in the Canal Zone, which was administered and run by the US government until the late 1990s.
I mjst have been having a dozen senior moments. Do you have a source. I posted the url and wiki says the same thing.
Heard that too.
I understand he was Born outside the Panama Canal Zone.
Doesn’t matter though, he was born to two American Citizen Parents.
Why do you care? You don’t want him running for anything do you? I sure don’t.
Both his parents were Americans. That makes him a natural born citizen of the United States under the original intent of the Constitution.
If true, I stand corrected.
More importantly, where was he not born. He was not born in any of the 48 united States. Neither was George Romney or Barry Goldwater.
There is a third requirement to be 'natural born' US citizen... Born on US soil... I have doubts, lord McCain fits under the Founders 'original intent'... What does lord McCain's birth certificate say.... Born in Panama? There is a problem if it does.
A freeper told me he was born in a hospital outside the Canal Zone. Which may have been the reason something funny went on when he was running against Obama. Didn’t Congress make some sort of agreement on where he was born...or that it was ok? Now they’re not even keeping up the pretense.
“The One, The True, The ONLY Principled Constitutional Conservative” was born in Canada of a Cuban/Canadian father and a woman who may have renounced her US citizenship before Cruz was born.
48 or 57 states?
I’m confused.
You can use:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coco_Solo
Coco Solo was an old sub base for the US on the Atlantic side of the Canal. The naval base became a high school for the Americans on that side of the Canal, and later was turned over to the Panama gov’t. It is one of those little odd facts about Coco Solo....that McCain was born there. And it should be noted...this was more of a clinic, because the ‘big’ hospital there...wasn’t built until five years later.
Well it is not a problem because somehow all the Presidents so far have been born in America of two American parents.
The canal zone was deemed US property.
If you try to use the logic of foreign birth like this....then you have probably around three-quarters of a million Americans who came from military members stationed overseas and the mother gave birth there, and trying to explain how they aren’t “real” Americans. The logic won’t work.
so he was born on base.?
Also, if a military family has a baby outside the country, that baby should be allowed to run for president. When I rule the world..........
That’s for asking me what I care about. I’m arguing with someone because I read something different here. So I am asking if freezers read the same thing. Go back to bed.
If it were my call, I would never eliminate a baby born to military overseas from running. However, why did congress pass a resolution? Is it the USSC’s role to interpret the constitution?
Coco Solo was a US sub base (prior to WW II). This was all US canal zone territory. Prior to the 1960s...if you’d traveled to the canal zone, you’d look around and probably call it ‘Little America’ because it had theaters, grocery stores, and everything about the canal zone area was absolutely American. Even the railway that went from the Atlantic side to the Pacific....was canal zone property and operated by them successfully.
Obama’s father was an american? Is that what you’re saying? all the presidents?
For some odd reason, this whole topic keeps coming up about every five to ten years. People seem to just not grasp that several thousand Americans now (used to be alot more) are born via military parents at overseas locations. Everyone seems to want to reinvent the discussion and carry it to some other level....when there’s just not much to talk about.
