The results of the first statewide poll for Indianas upcoming primary show a small lead for party front runners Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, with a tight race on both sides of the aisle.
The WTHR/HPI Indiana Poll has Trump with a 6-point lead over his closest challenger Ted Cruz. The poll indicates a record turnout will favor Trump over the other candidates.
The results prove just how pivotal Indiana's primary race is going to be nationally.

It's Winner Take All for the 30 statewide delegates and Winner Take All in each of the 9 congressional districts at 3 delegates each. If Trump takes it, the 1237 strategy is intact.
Hillary! has a 3-point lead over the commie.
How can anyone sane of mind and body vote for Ted Cruz? He is down in all polls, has few TV/Radio interviews, cannot muster more then 100-250 people to his rallies. The good folks in Indiana must be drinking lots of Kool-Aid. Go figure!!! GO DONALD j. TRUMP!!!
Indiana will go Trump in the general
“How can anyone sane of mind and body vote for Ted Cruz?”
I agree. I will not be voting for Elmer Gantry.
The main reason we are voting Cruz in the Pennsylvania primary on April 26 is to make sure he finishes ahead of the Soros stooge Kasich. Trump is going to win big anyway. It needs to come down to Trump vs. Cruz before the GOPe gives up their fantasy of a brokered convention.
Cruz and the establishment are all in for Indiana. It is their firewall... Go Trump! If it exists, we’ll need enough votes to beat voter fraud, btw...
But, but I thought Indiana was a repeat of Wisconsin?? (sarc)
But truly, this is very good news for Trump, although by no means should he be overconfident. The bad news for sleazy Ted is that Trump is likely to win 5 states on Tuesday (by mostly landslide margins) that will only reinforce his status as the frontrunner and presumptive nominee. Ted Cruz is in trouble, imo.
Actually, the establishment and talk radio are not so universally anti-Trump like it was in Wisconsin. Pence hasn't endorsed and it seems that he won't, considering that he's up for re-election this year and it could unnecessarily stoke opposition to his bid if he endorsed either candidate. Indiana will likely be much more pro-Trump than Wisconsin - for a wide variety of reasons.
Lots of religious types in Indiana. Think Footloose.
The poll was taken from the 18-21st, two days pre NY and two post. I’d like to see a complete post NY poll come out. Still, good news for Trump!
Indiana is more Illinois than Wisconsin. All of the surrounding states, but for Kay-sick’s home state of Ohio has gone into the Trump camp.
It’s not an Upper Midwest or Mountain West/Plains state where Cruz has traditionally done well this cycle.
Trump over performed his RCP average by 7.4 percentage points. I’m going to bet that Trump takes Indiana, getting close to 50 percent of the vote, Cruz a distant 2nd with about 30 percent and Kasich at about 20 percent.
“Lots of religious types in Indiana. Think Footloose.”
A lot of UAW too, former Reagan-Democrats with kids, recent high school and college grads who can’t get jobs in the shrunken auto industry or full time jobs due to Obamacare.
They were Bushed in 2008, but IMHO this will be the GOP’s to lose in Indiana.
Hoosiers, blue collar, esp. skilled workers, and white collar Sanders goo goos tend to be fairly politically astute, and they want a change and a win.
My magic 8 ball says a big win for Trump, if he can keep a lid on himself for ten days.
Ten days Pshh Cruz will be a skid mark on the election path by then...
Kasich will not get out. If he does his delegates go to Trump (#2) by Ohio law.
Yep
