MEXICO CITY, Mexico — A recently launched government-controlled, home-delivery food distribution system in Venezuela has further riled the restive country, prompting fears that the state may withhold basic items from those who do not support it.

The new system, known as Local Supply and Production Committees, or CLAP in Spanish, is meant to reduce hours-long lines outside of supermarkets. Lines, lootings and black market sales of everything from diapers to cooking oil have grown as shortages of basic commodities in the country have worsened in recent months.

Could be used as punishment?

That's the whole idea!

Venezuela has officially crossed over from socialism to communism.

Viva la revolution!

Local Supply and Production Committees

Hillary should approve of that concept. After all, “it takes a village”

The government taking control of the distribution of food and using it as a political weapon? Good thing that could never happen in the United States, where the government is taking control of the distribution of medical services...

Water empires lasted a long time because they could control who lived or died, who ate and who starved. Don’t pay taxes, don’t submit, we turn off your water.

Socialist societies routinely try to recreate this model with every commodity they can, from food to medicine to power and water.

That’s how it is in North Korea.

The secret police categorize the populace into dozens of categories of “loyalty”.

The top categories are in Pyongyang (capital) with food.

The lower categories are sent to work/death camps and always in some degree of starvation.

They often punish whole families for what one person did.

Well, at least we’ll save $2500 a year in food costs.

Commies and socialists have been using food availability as a weapon for over a century. Holodomor, the Nazis, nearly all of Africa at one time or another, China... and now Venezuela.

“Now, everyone just stay home and we’ll bring food to you.”

Hahahahahahahahahahaha!

My God. They don’t even have to worry about dead people in the streets. They’ll just die in their chairs waiting for chow.

Keeps them from rioting.

Brilliant.

Chavez did the same thing with Electricity.

Poor neighborhoods that supported him got uninterrupted subsidized power. Rich neighborhoods got power outages and sky high bills.

All those young people with their expensive phones and cars who are all excited about Bernie, expecting to be given a lot. Well, they will be given a lot. They will get to sign a loyalty oath in exchange for a few “free” slices of moldy bread. Maybe they understand that but each one thinks he is such a special snowflake that he will be the top 1% of the communist ruling class. Not everyone gets to be commissar, not even a special snowflake.

There’s that time when Stalin wanted the Ukraine to submit to collectivism. 2 million starved to death.

A food distribution system only works if there’s some food to distribute.
