I'll start with one question to see if anyone can help me.

Regarding the ARRAY MODIFIER, when I try to join the main shape created by the modifier, with an additional shape,
by SHIFT SELECTING (objects) + CTRL J the object created with the modifier disappears in OBJECT MODE,
and in EDIT MODE it doesn't join either. What am I missing?

Well, are the objects created by the array modifier even “real” objects that you can join? Aren’t they just artifacts of the base object and the array modifier? Have you tried joining the base object with the additonal object instead?

I did a little more research, apparently they are real objects, but all linked together with the main object so you can’t manipulate them seperately:
