Hi Jim, I didn't know how to email you privately so I'll use one of the more casual forums. This is not a new topic, I'm sure, but let me add my voice to whatever clamor there is to migrate Free Republic to a more modern forum software package, one that
1. Has functions which are easy to see/find and invoke
2. Allows easier upload of pictures
3. That allows email notification of replies to comments
4. That allows editing after a comment is posted
5. That has text editing features so one doesn't need to know HTML code in order to add emphasis.
6. That has a Search function for previous posts
7. That is easier to navigate to the specialty forums such as "Gods, Graves, Glyphs", which, had it not been mentioned in a random post, I never would have found here on FR.
This is the modern era, there are far, far better forum software packages out there. Free Republic may well experience a rapid growth in users post Trump victory. We'll want to make joining and participating fully in FR as easy as possible.

Nonsense- the reason Fr has as many as they do is because the articles and excerpts are quick, easy to read- and perfect for a rushed society that wants news fast, breaking, and simple to access multiple stories quickly- Yes even young people- There are plenty of ‘flashy’ ‘coll looking’ crappy websites around- the reasons that many don’t have larger followings is because they do not offer what this site offers- many folks in this thread have repeatedly tried to tell you this- but you want change and that is that apparently- Many younger folks have signed up to this site over the years- many others simply lurk and for good reason- because it’s a fantastic site to get news and get it quick clean and functional-
I belong to several news sites- but none of them are nearly as good as this site- they are slow- they have far far fewer articles, and certainly lag when it comes to breaking news- some not posting for hours- This site has reams of major breaking news updating nearly by the second- as well as tons of general interest stories which one is able to very quickly read the title and excerpt and decide if they wish to read further or not-

Sorry, but FRis the best discussion software anyplace. Nothing comes close. It’s possible to have near real-time conversations here. No place else.
In fact, if I were to pick a site best poised to be the conservative alternative to Facebook, I’d pick FR.

Unfortunately, the owner/poster of the popular God,Graves, &Glyphs posts, Sunken Civ was run off during the recent political season for not being sufficiently enthused about Donald Trump.
I like this system. It’s one of the reasons I’ve been using it for 20 years. But I do agree that it would be nice to add a few features, including some you mentioned. I’d just like to see them added to this software and not some other forum software used instead. No other forum software I’ve ever seen has been as clean and easy use as this.
If there is any interest in such an app, the authors would be interested in knowing what price people would be willing to pay for it in Google Play or the Apple App Store. And Jim, if you have any interest, we can discuss options, including turning the source code over to you, to do with as you see fit.

You can already do that by looking at the thread titles and seeing which ones have a number of posts.
A thread that has been up for an hour and has one post is likely not popular or controversial.
One that has been up for five minutes and has nine posts probably is.

SunkenCiv wasn’t run off. His account is still active if he wants to use it. If you skim through his posts you don’t see any conflict over Trump.
He just chose to do what a lot of neverTrumpers here did, they left for the GOPBriefingRoom. Some were booted, but he certainly wasn’t.
