With the news about the Mozilla Foundation and the desire of many FReepers to drop the Firefox browser, there are some viable (IMHO) alternatives, both of which are character-based:Links is text WWW browser with tables and frames. It runs on Linux, Unix, OS/2 and Windows. Lynx is a text browser for the World Wide Web. Lynx 2.8.7 runs on Un*x, MacOS, VMS, Windows 95/98/NT, DOS386+ (but not 3.1, 3.11), as well as OS/2 EMX.

On Friday, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) published the first public draft of Encrypted Media Extensions (EME). EME enables content providers to integrate digital rights management (DRM) interfaces into HTML5-based media players. Encrypted Media Extensions is being developed jointly by Google, Microsoft and online streaming-service Netflix. No actual encryption algorithm is part of the draft; that element is designed to be contained in a CDM (Content Decryption Module) that works with EME to decode the content. CDMs may be plugins or built into browsers. The publication of the new draft is a blow for critics of the extensions, led...

For example, if I want to show this jpeg photo of President Reagan and Mrs. Thatcher: http://www.donnamoderna.com/var/ezflow_site/storage/images/media/images/moda/accessori/thatcher/ronald-reagan-e-margaret-thatcher/67684353-1-ita-IT/Ronald-Reagan-e-Margaret-Thatcher.jpg How can I show the photo itself and not just the link? Many thanks in advance to whoever can show me how to do this.

I am modifying html of a Word document that contains an image. Previously, the image location was an "absolute" location, e.g. src="C:/folder1/folder2/image001.jpg" Now, however, I want the image location to be relative, not absolute. Specifically, I want to keep the html file and the image file in the same folder, regardless of name, and I want the html to be able to find the image file. I thought that this statement would do it: src="image001.jpg" However, when I view the html, I see no image, only that dreaded empty box. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

It would be nice if, when we want to use some tags for emphasis (such as <em> to denote someone else's comment), or bolding, if we didn't have to then revert into full HTML and manually add paragraph breaks. It shouldn't have to be all or nothing. For instance, the blogging software Wordpress automatically converts line breaks to paragraph tags, while still allowing the addition of HTML for other things. Is there some reason that we couldn't have the same capability here? It would make commenting a lot less painful.

Ed Felten dug into the details of the registry's microformat, hNews, which the AP announced a few weeks earlier, and here's where it gets really interesting: the hNews rights field is based on the Creative Commons Rights Expression Language (ccREL).
