MERIDIAN — Adam Pearl walked into his Meridian home Tuesday and realized something didn’t seem right.

“I came in the front door and I saw snow prints out in the front driveway going to the back of the house, so I thought something was awry because no one usually goes through the yard,” Pearl told KIVI.

Pearl was immediately greeted by his pet squirrel Joey when he got home, but the he started noticing a few doors that would normally be closed were open.

Nicest part of it is getting an attack squirrel without having that much to shell out. (Now joining you in ducking)

One day, long long ago when I was in the infantry, we were on a field exercise at Fort Hood, Texas, and had set up in a copse of live oaks. We were on a one-day downtime during the exercise and so everyone was pretty much catching up on their sleep.

Our platoon sergeant set up his hammock and was, pretty quickly, very deeply sawing some Z's when we noticed that the trees around him were full of squirrels. So we decided to have a little bit of fun.

We gathered up some peanut butter cans and jelly cans from our C-rations and quietly smeared them all over the ropes that were holding up his hammock. Then we sat way back to watch nature take its course.

Obviously the squirrels were used to people being nearby because it didn't take very long before they were down on the trees, just chewing away at the peanut butter-and-jelly covered ropes.

By the time our platoon sergeant recovered after his abrupt drop, we were all "snoozing" away in our positions ...

In these parts, he’d be arrested for harboring a wild animal without a permit.

What I love about this story, is that the officer went out and found the perp [story doesn’t say how], and proved what had happened in the robbery, by the robber’s testimony, and recovery of some of the stolen stuff.

Around here, the cop would have taken the info, issued a report, gone back to pulling people over for not wearing their seat belts, and called it a day.

Cool story. A respite from the grind of the dishonest media.

We live in a country club neighborhood that has millions of squirrels. They are an abundance at our house. I’ve had them get mad at me and chase me. lol
