Authorities say the victims had suffered significant head trauma and other serious injuries
A teenager visiting New York with family for spring break was among the four young people found brutally killed in a park in a Long Island neighborhood that has for years contended with a growing problem of gang violence.
Jefferson Villalobos was one of the victims found dead in Central Islip Recreation Village Park Wednesday night, his cousin Yensy Fuentes told News 4 Friday. He had been on vacation with his grandmother, and arrived from Pompano, Florida, last Friday, to visit family in Brentwood.
Villabolos, who would have turned 19 next month, had half his face missing, according to Fuentes. He was identified in part by a tattoo he had on his arm. "My uncle, as soon as he saw it, he knew it was him," said Fuentes.
The tattoo was of two hands wrapped around a rosary with the inscription "In God's hands." His cousin Michael Banegas, 20, was another victim. Banegas lived in Brentwood and was from Honduras, Fuentes said. He was suffocated with a plastic bag and his face was unrecognizable.
"I'm trying my hardest to stay strong. I haven't seen him yet, so this is all so unreal to me, and I can't really explain the feeling," Funetes said, taking a deep breath. Their family was at the park Friday to leave flowers and crosses where their bodies were discovered. They wept as they sat on the ground and held each other.
Sixteen-year-old Justin Llivicura of East Patchogue and Jorge Tigre, 18, of Bellport, were identified by police and relatives as the other two victims. Llivicura went to the park with friends on Tuesday but had not been answering his phone since then, relatives said. The family filed a missing person report with police on Wednesday.

At least their parents can admire America for its diversity and commitment to the idea that every culture should be protected and nurtured, including the thug culture of their native land, where you can get murdered at the drop of a hat.
I recommend Tomahawk missiles. They can be quite effective. Or a MOAB on their “clubhouse”.

Does anyone know how much of Long Island has gang and serious crime problems? I bet most of us far from there have assumed LI is mostly a pretty safe, low crime area, but maybe not.
Central islip and surrounding towns are NOT repeat NOT THE burbs.
And they weren’t going as far back when I moved to the island, out of that cesspool called NYC back in 1964. There were burbs out here then and now. Nice places then and now.
Those places are more like the urban sprawl of LA.

My guess is that you are safer in Manhattan than you would be in Islip.
Which Islip? Central Islip, East Islip? West Islip or The Town of Islip? On LI people rarely think of the County they live in. If asked “What town are you from” people answer with the name of the HAMLET in which they live, ie Sayville, Oakdale, East West or Centrap Islip etc. I grew up here but I’d have to consult a map to figure out how many “towns” there are in the Township of Islip. I once from memory tried to count the seperate Highschools there in Islip Town but couldn’t do it. Its very weird compared to most places.
So much for the rosary.

Where in Manhattan? That’s a big question. Also there are 5 Burroughs in NYC.

Lived in Queens and worked the last 10 years of my career in Harlem, Washington Hts and the South Bronx. Told my co-workers that when I retired I was gonna move to America. Three years after I hung up my tool belt I put a roll of razor wire on my shoulder and headed Southwest. As soon as someone asked me, “What’s that?” I knew I was home.

hate to be the one to break the bad news to you, but any place which requires you to drive someplace to buy milk is definitely the ‘burbs.
When I need to buy milk, I take the elevator and walk across the street. Ditto for wine. Coffee & breakfast is on same block.

In 1957, as a senior in high school, I was a representative to the Wisconsin governors council on children and youth....my topic was “you will get the level of gang violence that you will tolerate”....I was right then and still am.

I will also add that during the late 1960's through 1970's, there was a section of Central Islip, known as Carlton park.
During this time period, this was a section that when a cop did decide to enter, it was a MINIMUM 3 car (Police car's with shotguns) back-up. It was quite common to see an officer either with his hand on his weapon ready to pull, and or have it already out and just hanging down along his leg. (Notice that I said "his" leg) and not "her leg." The political correct BS had not even start to take effect at that time frame. You need to knock on a door, just use your fist (left hand,) keeping your gun hand free, just to save yourself, and fellow officers, if needed.
Sorry to report, that sometimes it was needed.
How tough /ruff of a neighborhood was it, I'm talking back when you had coin operated telephone's, they had one corner, (Checked google maps very close to "McKinney St. & Smith St. Central Islip." From what I remember, some of the streets now shown as not connecting with Carleton Ave (State Route 17) did back in the day.) forget the street name, but they had something like 6 (six) or 8 (eight) pay telephones. They were told, that if a telephone went missing / robbery , etc., they wouldn't be replaced. They had them telephones FOR A LONG TIME!
