The global obesity epidemic continues, and a new report shows that about two billion people worldwide are overweight or obese. That's about 30% of the world's population.

The new study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, found that about a third of the global population—including adults and children—exceed a healthy weight. About 10% of people in the world are obese, according to the findings. Studies have linked overweight and obesity to a higher risk for health complications like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, depression, respiratory problems, major cancers and more.

Some of the most important people in the world, were.

It’s kind of myopic to see people in terms of one thing, but that is the way of our day, I think.

I don’t remember many fat kids from 1972. I was 12 and Mickey D’s was a rare treat.

You guys are funny-and mean. Mexico is the worst. Lotta’ porkers there. It was always a poor country in my memory. Any connection between obesity and the lack of freedom in most of the world? You guys are smart. Talk to me.

My opinion as to why:

Increased prosperity/more food
Increased prosperity/air conditioners and heat
Increased prosperity/less hard physical labor
And the cut back of smoking cigarettes

That said are we not living longer than when we were thinner?

I saw a report about the obesity epidemic on CBS news one night. The news reader said that 2.2 billion people worldwide were obese and that “a third of those (approx 700 million) were in the U.S.

The news reader probably majored in Journalism in college and had only a 3rd-4th grade arithmetic (summing and take away skills) and ignored the screaming fact that there are only approx. 350 million people in the U.S. which is considerably less that 700 million or a third of the world’s total of obese people.

I wonder how many million people saw that broadcast and thought .... how did an idiot get a job like that?

Has there ever been sustained civil unrest when the poorest are the most likely to be obese? I don’t think that has ever happened. Of course the poorest being the most obese has never happened before either. So maybe there is a first time for everything. But I doubt it.
