iTunes BBC tv: "Dunkirk"
BBC | June 1, 2017 | self

Before the pushback comes: (a) I know it's from those unreliable lefties at the BBC (2) the Brits offend me as much as anyone. That said, it was a huge surprise to watch a pc free, honest portrayal of this period of history.

Surprise!!! They're even treating Churchill fairly, perhaps better than Halifax.

Hans Zimmer does the soundtrack so they’re doing a decent enough job there.

Wikipedia writes:
>>Nolan decided to make the film as a triptych, told from three perspectives; the air (planes), the land (on the beach) and the sea (the evacuation by the navy).[3] What made the project attractive to Nolan was its inherent contradiction to Hollywood formula, as the Battle of Dunkirk was not a victory, did not involve America, and yet demanded a big-scale production to be put on screen.[10] Thus, Nolan intended that Dunkirk would be made only once he had accrued experience with such films.<<

Hopefully, we can see a film without contrived romance — as in “Pearl Harbor.”

Well, I guess I gotta see it. I already commented, I think, on the teaser preview I saw. I don’t go to movies much anymore, let’s see if I make good.

We already know the ending but from the trailers it looks worth it for the sights and sounds. I am saving every euro for a three week beach vacation in August. I'll enthusiastically go see it in early Fall.

Nolan is almost the Ronald Reagan of filmmaking. He treats his craft with such dignity and respect, he doesn’t even show up at the set unless it’s in a coat and tie.

Total agreement here on the contrived romance detracting from the Pearl Harbor movie. I saw the Dunkirk trailer yesterday in the lead-up to Wonder Woman and was just overwhelmed. The triptych approach should make the story comprehensive. I'm looking forward to the part about every available boat being put to sea for the effort.

I enjoy Tom Hardy performances very much. His Child 44 movie was fantastic.

Thanks. I added it to my NetFlix queue, but ratings are all over the place.

IMDB - 6.5/10
Rotten Tomatoes - 25%
Roger Elbert - 1.5/4
NetFlix - 4/5

Very strange. I would place it closer to the Netflix rating of 4 out of 5. Good movie. Anti commie with good acting.

My ex-father-in-law served in the British army all through WWII and was at Dunkirk. Still, he used to say that the greatest human calamity he ever witnessed was a quarter inch of snow in Atlanta.

Dunkirk is the reason England needed Lend-Lease.
